Just got my pair today from Headphones.com and have about 45 minuties on them with a Schiit Bifrost 2 into a Schiit Jot, Schiit Lyr 3 and a Schiit Magni 3. All there drive these cans very well, yes even a $99 SS amp! Ha!
So far my first impressions are they fit my head very well, the weight to me is not an issue, and the sound is absolutley top shelf....fast transients, faithful tone, strings are sublime voices are awesome and live perfs are like your on stage...
Schiit Lyr 3 is a killer amp with these....more than enough power....put on my HD 600s the world standard for 20+ years...they pale in comarision...alot.
One observation after putting on Clears after the HEDDS was....beside the more open soundstage of the HEDDS. Its like like its all there (details) with the Clears but you have to listen carefully to hear it all...where as the HEDDS its like its all out in the open...
The HEDD definitely has that sense of "all in" as you mention. It was an effortless sound, that made my LCD-3 seem a bit confined in response. They aren't for sure, but the HEDD have that ability to make it seem that way.
I wear them for 4-6 hours a day now...and I am very lucky I dont have any hot spot or real comfort issues...
I dont use any extensions....perfect fit. heft is there but with good posture they are fine and the sound is
well worth it for me....
Some state wide soundstage and excellent imaging, which I find to be an accurate statement.
The depth of front to back is not that "deep" as some would like or have witnessed in other cans..
For me if you have the right amp and the volume is set on the high side the depth increases somewhat.
But use a SPL meter so you wont listen in the danger zone.
Its like your on the stage in the band most of the time...not in the 5th row etc...
