as balanced output is generally useless (no audible advantage unless the cable is 10m or longer) it is imho stupid to make that the standard termination.

@BartSimpson1976 have you ever heard balanced output yourself? Not that I want to open a can of worms over here (if I did, sorry for that)...but imo (to my ears) it made a huge difference (using Sony XBA-Z5 & MDR-Z7) on my Pono player. I think they chose this termination as it's possible to use a 3,5 mm regular adapter with it...wouldn't be possibe the other way around I guess, as the whole cable has to be balanced to start with.
