While I appreciate your different opinion on sound (we’d be quite boring if we all agreed), the items you note as “major design flaws” could be applied across many much, much more expensive IEM’s. The Empire Ears Legend X for instance has severe driver flex, which caught me off guard until I was assured it was not of bother (still bothers me, but does not hinder sound or design). The LX also has open tube nozzles as do many others.
I will agree the Onyx is rather bulbous, but I still found fit was quite good even for extended listening sessions.
I do understand your right to state, “go back to the drawing board and try again,” but also find that many still do not like the French car, Citroen. Ugly? Yes. Fabulous cars? Yes again, to many, but not all.
