Great review Vince, I really enjoyed it. Thanks!

The tuning of the A73 is still a personal favorite, but the DN2000J is right up there with them. I can imagine many people preferring the DN200J tuning over the A73 though.

Excellent review! I've never used the bass rings, I'm going to give them a try now. I think I'm somewhat immune to sibilance (to some degree) and just love the way these are tuned.

I like the bass rings with rock but prefer stock for jazz. Thx for the tip.

I've owned these for ~3-4 months and have had a host of build quality problems with them, but I agree with the reviewer's conclusion that the sound is incredible for the price. I also second the opinion that the bass rings make a noticeable difference and can be just the thing for people who find the stock sound sig a little too treble-happy.

Very useful review, thanks.

Have you tried the Shure SE846 in the past? If so, how would it compare to the 2000J?

BTW, I'd like to point out that this Hi-Res overview:
http://www.digitaltrends.com/music/high-resolution-audio-everything-you-need-to-know/

is wrong went it comes to fundamentals, and overall misleading.

As far as the science of digital audio goes, 44.1/48 kHz is Hi-Res. There are sufficient theoretical arguments that 96 kHz would come as an optimal sampling rate, an end-game sampling speed if you will. But anything higher than that goes along the lines of scamming human consumers. As for the 16 vs 24 bit debate, it is more of a theological question, really: it affects the noise floor only (doesn't increase fidelity in any way), and when done properly in the studio 16 bit is more than humans will ever need (well, until they evolve, of course).

I've made an overview of these points in this post:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/713735/x7-the-flagship-dap-from-fiio-updated-on-15-12-2014/5085#post_11947517

But the real go-to reads on Hi-Res audio are:

The Science of Sample Rates (When Higher Is Better — And When It Isn’t)

I've only had a very brief listen to the shure 846. I really can't do a very good comparisoncomparison, but I can definitely say that from what I heard the 846 is a much warmer and bassier earphone.

Thanks! But which is the more balanced then? Is SE846 more on the warm side, or 2000J more on the bright side?

Do you mean to ask which one which one is more neutral? You should look at graphs for both.

Great review Vince. I've owned these for around six weeks now and totally agree with your findings. Most of all I love the clarity of these things which IMHO is excellent, but also have noticed the S & T issue you mentioned on some tracks. I haven't tried the bass rings yet but I will give them a try, however I did find that this also improved for me using the Comply isolation plus tips. So much so that I've ordered some spares. For me the sound vs. price ratio is outstanding.

I am in the market for a Hi-Res DAP. Could you recommend a suitable pairing please. My max budget is £1500. I am using my iPhone 5 to drive them at the moment. All my songs are ALAC ripped from CD's and a limited number of Hi-Res which I play through 3rd party Hi-Res app. Please don't hate me for using iPhone as my portable player lol.

Nice and clear review. I'm wondering if you have tried the Flare Audio R2pro and if you did, which one would you go for?

@Hisoundfi Awesome Review. Thank you very much. It helps to understand more about the earphone. I am seriously considering to purchase Dunu DN series and I currently owns Dunu Titan 1, Sony XBA H1, Aurvana Live, Philips SHP9500 and I love all of them. I am considering to upgrade IEM and I was initially going to purchase DN-1000 but after reading your review, adding DN-2000 and DN-2000J as consideration, too.

My question is which one has the highest price vs performance ratio among DN-1000, DN-2000, DN-2000J in your opinion?

I am not an audiophile and just enjoy listening high quality music and I mainly listen Accoustic, Electronic, Pop and Rock and Female vocal.

Love to hear your opinion/feedback/thoughts. :)
