Brooko, do you have any experience with Phonaks? Either 012, 022 or 112? (I have both the 012 & 022. With grey filters, they are the same as the 112 with greys). I really like the Phonaks, but like most, I am always on the look out for the next step up. Like you, I am especially a fan of female vocals. Which BTW, if you are looking for headphones, the ZMF Vibro/Blackwoods are phenomenal with vocalists like Norah Jones. ... Thanks!

ReelDeal - sorry, haven't heard any of the Phonaks. The only caution I would suggest with the 2000J is that if you have treble sensitivity, some are findng them too bright. I am not sensitive to treble - so I find them a very nice, balanced, clear IEM.

Nice review. I have owned these for around six weeks now.  I did have a set of K3003 for a short while that I borrowed from a good pal of mine and IMHO they do sound similar to my ears except for a slight sibilance issue in the higher treble. Although in fairness this only happens intermittently and it could actually be more of an issue with the actual material source rather than the Dunu's themselves.

Nice clear and super detail review!!! I'm wondering if you have tried the Flare Audio R2pro and if you did, which one would you go for?
Brooko
Brooko
@AK NYC - thanks.  I haven't heard the Flares.  I did reach out to them via a third party (to see if they wanted me to review their product), but I never heard back (and I'm not one to chase).  So unfortunately the only recommendation I can give is the DN2KJ.  Despite having higher value earphones like the Adel U6 and new Jays q-Jays, I still reach for the Dunu's often.  They really are flagship quality for mid-fi price. One of the true bargains at the moment.

Cool....I might go for the Jays q-Jays...the review looks good too. Thanks you thank you.

do you need an amp for these? whats a good one? i have the FiiO E07k for use with my Senn HD598. I heard with these the FiiO E6 is good? Or which one?
Brooko
Brooko
Hi elmuano - the 2000J are high sensitivity and low impedance, so they don't need an amp to shine - they are in fact easily driven. The only time you would need an amp is if your source has a high output impedance.  If you were looking for an amp to experiement with though - my recommendation for a cheap amp/dac with good features would be either the Fiio Q1, or the E17K (if you'd like tone controls).  Both are extremely good value IMO.

Brooko, What camera are u used ? Am little familiar with WB, maybe I can help, or share some of my knowlege about DSLR.

Hi Skull - thanks.  It is just a pretty cheap Canon Rebel T3, but its worked pretty well for the last 3-4 years for me.  When we eventually get past the teenage (expensive) years with our 2 kids, I'll look for something that will lift the game a little.  I can manually adjust the WB, and manipulate in PSP, but it would be really nice to have a camera I could do it automatically with one day :)

I probably should spend more time on getting the photo shoots better, but reality is that the reviews are taking me too long a lot of the time anyway - so I have to prioritise when I put the time in.

Hello Brooko !

I 'm in doubt about take the Dunu DN2000 or the DN2000J . The price is higher on the 2000J and the sonic differences are not big , but the price is .I have a friend que have an DN2000 and he likes a lot. He says que it has enough high ( and sometimes a little in excess ) and a good emphasis in bass , que are incredible . The 2000J has even more highs and it I 'm afraid about it ( sibilance and fatigue ) . It has less bass too . Do you think que the DN2000J really is an improvement over the DN2000 ? Which are the differences (I Know que go something in the high and bass ) . Its worth , Considering the difference in price ?

Thanks Brooko !

Hi Fred - I answered you in the other thread.  It comes down to preference.  If you notice in my "bias summary" - I prefer a brighter cleaner colder signature with a little upper mid-range emphasis.  Hence why I like the 2000J so much.  if your preference lends toward a warmer smoother signature - then the 2000 would eb the better choice.  You should also look at the 2002.

As always Brooko, it´s a pure joy to read your reviews. So much information in it and the best part is that you explain it so well.

Hi, I need help and a complete answer for the following question:
How is the DUNU DN 2000j compared to Sennheiser IE 800?
Thanks
Brooko

Unfortunately I have not tried the IE800.  Maybe best person to check with would be HiFiChris - as I believe he has both.

I need Help!
DUNU DN-2000j, Sennheiser IE800, Ultrasone IQ or RHA T20?
Thanks

Arsalan - I can't recommend anything unless I know your preferences.  Do you like a neutral sound, a bright sound or a bassy sound? Do you have larger ear canals or smaller?  Are you treble sensitive?  Do you tend to listen loud or quieter? To try and help without knowing anything about you is pointless. Also - I haven't heard theIE800 or U-IQ.  Ot of the RHA T20 and 2000J for my preferences, I like the RHA build and comfoprt, but very much prefer the 2000J sonic signature.  I personally find the  T20 still a little too warm/bassy for my preference.

Just got mine. Wearing standard tips. Out of the box some sibilance but HOLY COW. So natural and detailed. Very impressive. Going to use them for a few weeks to burn in naturally. Not bright at all. But I like Grado's so take it with a grain of salt.
