I was really tempted to get these until I read.

More precisely: the major emphasis focusses on mid-bass with about 6 to 8 dB. Sub bass and upper bass have got less level but are also obviously emphasised.

I hate that.

These are not at all that bass-y. Not nearly as much as a dedicated bass tuned dynamic at least. While the bass is there, the range is more attuned upward, towards the higher pitches. The mids are there, but are more for vocals, strings and some(but not a lot of) bass. Readings on a machine are one thing, but actually listening is something else entirely. I never use the infernal things because of that....I have over 90 hours and counting on these and all I told you about classical being good here is still true. Honestly, try these out for yourself because it's ultimately you who matters most.

Great review Chris.  I haven't measured mine yet - I try not to do that until I have my notes written, then afterward compare with the graphs and see if they gel. I'm interested to see how they do graph though!  I agree with you that the bass has some decay, but so far I haven't found it overpowering. and the nice thing with these is that its not always present, and only there when it's present in the music.

Thank you, @Brooko. I'm looking forward to your measurements.

@wijnands Though they have a fair amount of bass, I wouldn't consider them as excessively bassy. They've got about as much bass as the TTPod T1 (without E), though I haven't compared them side-to-side. You also have to keep in mind that these stated 6 dB are in relation to something like the UERM or Etymotic ER-4S. In addition, they have (in comparison to midbass) less upper bass than other IEMs like the Ivery IS-1 (bloated bass-monster, yikes), Sennheiser IE 80, Westone 4.
It's like with the Shure SE846 - midbass emphasis with less upper bass and ground tone will sound less bassy. The implementation of the Jive's bass emphasis is imo well done and not too much. I guess it will be clearly not enough for bassheads.

Imho they do a fairly good job for the price, especially in the mids and in terms of instrument separation.

At lower listening levels, bass's stored energy (to me it sounds a bit different than slow decay) is not really present, but gets more present as I turn up the volume, which may be due to the bodies are not vented.
