I love my LCD-X's for many of the same reasons that you included in your review, couldn't have said it better myself. I would for sure recommend a knitted cover that wraps around the top of the headphone (they are sold on ebay and aliexpress and sometimes amazon) They dont look like much but really help in distributing the weight so you can full enjoy! They are only a couple bucks if you wanna try one.

Thank you for the compliment and for the tip. I am considering replacing the stock headband with Audeze's carbon fibre version but it does cost a pretty penny (£160 here), I've also seen the Lohb strap too. The thing is, I feel the weight on the top of my head and on my ears. It sure is a physical presence, one that you cannot forget you are wearing.

It's pretty warm here now so I can barely wear them due to my ears getting hot quick, thanks to the thick leather ear pads. I'm sure the microsuede ear pads will help here, I just wish so much that these cans were ligther and had perforated ear pads (leather, microsuede or velour). If they did, they would be very hard to beat because they sound so bloody awesome!

Interesting review. It shows how subjective comfort really is--for this reviewer, comfort (or the lack of it) dominated his perception of an otherwise excellent sounding design.

I'm one of the lucky few who's never bothered by HP weight (not sure why). But I am bothered by janky stuff like those awful headbands on my p.f. LCD-2.1 & p.f. LCD-3. Sold the latter, kept the former; the only way I could handle wearing either was the new Audeze carbon headband I purchaseed (worth every penny). The headband I got has 2 parallel carbon top elements w/the usual perforated unit below. It helps comfort immensely & would like the do the same for the LCD-X.

Then again, the idea of buying an aftermarket pad from the manufacturer to relieve headband discomfort from their $1,700 headphones is...well, Twilight Zone-ish IMO.
