New Millett Hybrid MiniMAX (what happened to this thread?)
I use my MiniMAX with a pair of uFonken speakers featuring Fostex FF85WK drivers, which are 86 dB efficiency. This works will for me in a near-field setup (sitting at my computer). I had asked TomB about this before I tried it, and he advised me to watch that it didn't get too hot. I have not...- gspence2000

HD 650 headphone plastic driver bubble pressed in?
The same thing has happened to me. Somewhere on Head-Fi I learned the fix: pop off the screens, and blow on the bubble to pop it back out. One quick puff as if you were blowing out a candle. I'm sure I would have made a mess of those things had I not learned of this easy trick.- gspence2000

TomB, what is that object on the right side of the photo? It doesn't look like a MiniMAX--can you tell us a little about it?- gspence2000

Headphones that fit a child?
I ordered the Koss Porta Pros from Amazon this morning for $29.99. Thank you all for helping me figure this out. I'm sure my son will love his new setup. I'm building a cmoy amp using an Altoids tin and will install a volume-limiting resistor so that I can control the maximum volume. I...- gspence2000

Headphones that fit a child?
I plan to hard-wire the phones into a little homemade CMOY amp, and I'll put a resistor in series with the potentiometer so that I can set an upper limit for the volume. I'm pretty careful with my own ears, and I want to make sure he will enjoy his for a lifetime.- gspence2000

Headphones that fit a child?
Those DT990s look pretty sweet. As a Sennheiser wearer I totally understand how circumaural would be more comfortable. I'd like to keep this under $80 though.- gspence2000

The Koss KSC75 are more in my price range I think! I hadn't considered clip-ons. Are they the best fit for a child's head?- gspence2000

Headphones that fit a child?
I'm looking for a set of headphones for my 5-year old. He's really showing an interest in music and I'd like to encourage him. I thought maybe a used pair of Grado SR-60s would be a good first pair, but when I put my HF-2's on his head they are way too big. My wife tried to fit her iPod...- gspence2000

Joystick-Fi
Your joystick may not be as ideal for MAME as it is for SF4. I put together a joystick for MAME last year: Happ buttons and a Sanwa joystick in a plywood enclosure. It has been great for MAME and NES emulators. This month I got Street Fighter 4 and modified my joystick so that I have six...- gspence2000

Advice Wanted =] for Classical music headphone system under $2500
I'd think that a collection of SACD discs would be easier for your mother to handle than a computer-based library of files. I would recommend putting a portion of your budget towards a collection of SACD discs. You don't want to give your mother an expensive gift that requires her to make a...- gspence2000

Do you play your music over the Web and/or a home LAN?
I have speakers in five rooms around my house hooked up to a little 45-watt Parasound Zamp and 5-way ZSelect speaker switch. The source is a Logitech Duet. Initially I ran a media server in the house, but before long I just gave that up and I have been using Rhapsody, Pandora, and streaming...- gspence2000

Once you've got a nice mechanical pencil that you like, you'll want some great lead to go in it. The best I've used is Pentel Ain Hi-Polymer. I use Pentel Ain in HB 0.5 and it does not smudge yet erases easily. This is a great upgrade for your pencil. Want a good eraser? Get a good plastic...- gspence2000

I've got a Kuru Toga High Grade, and it's a fantastic pen. The lead rotates a tiny bit each time you lift it off the paper, so that the point stays sharp and not chisel-tipped. Of course this does not work if you write in cursive, but for printed characters, it is very good. I thought it would...- gspence2000

I'm putting in an order for a Rotring 800 .5mm in black. They are $75 at Andrey's and I just can't stop myself. The 800 model is just like the 600 but the tip is retractable so that it won't poke a hole in your shirt pocket.- gspence2000
