Shootings at my school (Virginia Tech)

Stop jumping to conclusions. Va Tech's newspaper The Collegiate Times has several heart-wrenching articles as well as photos. http://collegemedia.com/

I believe the vast majority of students interviewed have been very well-spoken thus far.

Shootings at my school (Virginia Tech)

I am stunned and saddened. Virginia Tech is my alma mater, and my prayers go out to each and every student, faculty member, Virginia Tech employee, and family member.

    HDCD list

My Sigur-Ros () is an HDCD title - which is successfully decoded as HDCD within Windows Media Player, my Onix XCD-88, as well as my NAD C-542. The CD appears to have been created in the U.S. and the bar code is 088 113 091-2.

    Still using a MD deck?

It amazes me that Sony had not released an HiMD deck (as well as Sharp and Denon), as a separate, true deck component. I have basically given up on MD now, in part because of this omission. No way I am going to pay over $450 USD for a format that has so little support in the States, and appears...

Seagate 300GB, 16 MB buffer HD - $90 shipped (NO REBATE!)

I must have pulled the trigger too late. No problem - will wait for a 400 GB or 500 GB at a decent price later this year.

Seagate 300GB, 16 MB buffer HD - $90 shipped (NO REBATE!)

The linked worked at 4:01 PM ET, and I placed my order - but received an email an hour later stating they were out of stock (although I don't believe it, and suspect someone madea pricing error).

Cool Songs That Commercials Made Popular

Air's Playground Love, from the Virgin Suicides soundrtrack album, was used in a Levi's commercial several years ago. The music caught my attention and it took me weeks to figure out Playground Love was the track.

Songs downloaded from iTunes -> lossless !!!

Sorry, but you are wrong. You cannot get back what was lost during compression. 128 kbps "lossy" files are compressed (roughly 10 times smaller than originally on the CD) - and you cannot get the original content back. Lossless comprression, on the other hand, allows you to decompress back...

    Most Sensual Song

Moments in Love - The Art of Noise. Certainly not one of the most frequently played; but the style, the song length, the groove - fits the bill.

    onix xcd-88-- retired??

Hey, the difference is only $100. Yes, it is more expensive than the XCD-88, but the XCD-99 is $399, not $499.

Thinking about picking up the Eastsound CD-E5

I am having no problems at all, but am curious - what transport should I buy if I need a backup? I see where the optical pickup (VAM 1202) is listed and I will likely purchase a backup, but what transport is required if I need to replace it 10 or 12 years down the road? Thanks for the help.

    Simple iTunes Bitrate Question

Just imagine a 5 minute song sampled into 6 distinct data points, one every minute (0, 1 min, 2 min, 3 min, 4 min, and 5 min). Say this is 1 kbps - just for argument's sake. 6 total points, very compressed, barely representing the oringinal file. Then up convert the 1 kbps (not the original 44.1...

XCD-88 *exactly* the same as MMF CD-25?

BradJudy is correct. The Onix XCD-88 has OPA2604APs. I believe there is an appreciable difference when using the OPA627 op amps - that is why I modded my player, replacing the stock 2604 with 627APs. I believe there is no appreciable difference, other than cost, between the OPA627APs and the...
