Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Interesting that I'm not the only one, then! My Linux desktop at work isn't too bad either, though I have to crank the volume up to nearly the maximum when playing symphonies (on my Denon D2000's, which are very sensitive). I could tell the difference between the two in a blind test, but the...- Joriarty

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
For me, the only tangible differences between the Modi and the Bifrost are (1) the Bifrost can handle and switch between different inputs, if you were to have two different sources, and (2) the Bifrost stacks nicely with the Assgard. A $250 ish DAC with optical, coax, and USB would be...- Joriarty

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
And what exactly is an "impedance harmonic node"? I must have skipped that lecture . And here's Jason singing Townes. It's been a long time since a piece of brought me to tears, but his Pancho and Lefty did. Gillian Welch (and partner David Rawlings) and Jeffrey Foucault are other...- Joriarty

So you could say the Schiit has hit the fan? Sorry. That was a Schiit joke. You've probably heard them all a million times before. I'll stop!- Joriarty

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
I was considering a few other brands of amp and DAC for a new setup -- including Schiit, of course. Then I found this thread and had to buy some of this Schiit for myself. I've always just plugged my headphones into my computer, but now that I have a lot more disposable income I've finally...- Joriarty

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2: horrible sound quality with IEMs. Solution?
Quote: I tried Neutron (apparently that's the best SQ-wise). I set the player's pre-amp down to minimum (that's -30 dB) and system output volume near maximum but still sounds terrible (there was an improvement, though). The sound is actually distorted, rather than simply being recessed /...- Joriarty

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2: horrible sound quality with IEMs. Solution?
I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 (running Gingerbread), to replace both my dumbphone and iPod. However, the sound quality is horrendous (washy bass, crackling highs) when I use my Ultimate Ears 700 earphones (there is also a fair bit of background static). This appears to be due to...- Joriarty

Denon AH D2k's....
You won't be disappointed. They are a fantastic pair of headphones, and even run off my iPod nano (no, I don't wear them out in public, they are rather huge for that ) Nice, balanced, warm, smooth, detailed sound. Sound good before burn-in, but they only improve with time.- Joriarty

Shure SE530 and AMP
My iPod Nano drives my Denon D2000's fine. Unless you're crazy, you don't need an amp. You might get an almost imperceptible increase in quality using expensive source, DAC and amp components... but for the average joe, it isn't worth it.- Joriarty

Corda Cantate.2?
Jan Meier's website is listing a "Corda Cantate.2", and there is no photo appearing. I'm sure the site wasn't like that yesterday... Anyone know what the story is? I was already considering buying a Cantate, so an upgrade could be nice. Sounds like he might be bringing out an upgraded version...- Joriarty

This one is shocking. Damn good CD though. It came with a cardboard sleeve so there's two lovely pictures greeting you before you get to the disc. -
Chris Smither DVD: A MUST BUY
Just got a live Chris Smither DVD, and I love it! It is just incredible how one man can sound like four people. He strums the rhythm with his thumb, plays the lead guitar with his fingers, sings, and taps his feet for percussion! Here's a video of him performing: YouTube - Origin of Species... -
iTunes Sound Check: Any affect on sound quality?
As I thought... I don't use equalisers at all, let alone *gasp* their "sound enhancer". Just wasn't exactly sure how it worked because manufacturers never explain that sort of stuff any more. Oh well. I've still got the volume button- Joriarty

I have a terrible hearing range, I'm 14, should I worry?
Some people are born deaf. I don't know, maybe some people are born unable to hear past 7.5 kHz. You may have had this problem from birth and it won't make a difference, or it could be a sign of bad things to come... best get it checked out by an audiologist in any case, I think.- Joriarty

iTunes Sound Check: Any affect on sound quality?
Just a quick question for you guys... does the iTunes "Sound Check" affect the sound quality at all, or does it just raise/lower the volume of tracks in the exact same manner the regular volume slider does? Or does it do some form of on-the-fly "brick-wall compression" as well? I like the...- Joriarty

Post Your Photography Here #2
Lots of really great photography here! Really like the nature shots... does anyone know of a good online gallery of similarly excellent high-res photos I could use as desktop backgrounds? I really should stop looking at this now before I buy an expensive camera myself- Joriarty

OK, Google can't turn up ANYTHING on this. If you own a pair of Denon 1001 headphones, could you please take the following measurements for me: (looking on buying some instead of IEM's, but wondering how bulky they are instead of my D2000s) - Earcup diameter (if cups aren't circular, give me...- Joriarty

VERY unhappy with Shure SE110. Advice?
Ordered some Shure SE110 earphones to go with my soon-to-arrive iPod Nano... the earphones arrived today and I am NOT happy. They sound far worse than my Sennheiser MX500's that cost 1/4 as much. How do they sound? Muffled, distant, and weak. And they hiss. They have similar bass response to...- Joriarty
