Shanling M5 Ultra - High-End MTouch Portable Player - Releasing in April 2024
The Cayin M3 Ultra runs a stripped and locked down version of Android that basically only runs a re-skinned Hiby Player App. You can't install apps on it. It also doesn't have wifi or bluetooth.- Murgatroid

HiBy RS8 flagship Darwin R2R Android DAP -- Class A -- news and impressions thread
I'm not sure playing music without headphone plugged in will burn in the R2R DAC. On my Cayin N7, which also uses Hiby's Android 12, not plugging in headphone will select the SPDIF output. I suspect the RS8 would do the same thing as I think it also supports SPDIF (with the same special USB-C...- Murgatroid

HiBy RS6 Android DAP - Snapdragon 660, 4+64GB, 5” full HD, Darwin R2R, FIR, NOS, MQA 16x, copper chassis
It looks like the RS6 finally has an update adding PEQ. Has anyone installed it? Does it have the volume limit BS that other HiBy players have been forced upon with recent updates? I’ve gone out of my way to get Sony players without this nonsense. I really don’t want to deal with it on a...- Murgatroid

HiBy R4
I've never heard the R4. My RS6 is definitely better than my R5ii in terms of improved sound stage, more organic and musical, and deeper bass. It runs warm and the battery life is not that great. I get 5-6 hours on it (90% to 20%) playing local music either through UAPP or Apple Music (all...- Murgatroid

HiBy R4
All of my Hiby and Cayin Android players, which use Hiby's version of android, do this. These range from Android 8.1 to 12. It's sort of annoying and I'd love to see them fix this. None of my Sony Android players do this. They start playing immediately.- Murgatroid

SONY NW-ZX700
When playing FLAC/ALAC on my ZX707 using the sony player with hi-res off, direct sound, low gain, all radios off - I lose about 4.5%/hr. That's about 22 hours. With the same conditions, but using Apple Music playing local lossless files, it's about 5%/hr or 20 hours. I'm ok with this. All my...- Murgatroid

Cayin N3Ultra: an Entry-level Portable DAP that Delivers a Complete Vacuum Tube Audio Experience
The N3 Ultra is running Android which doesn’t play nicely with apple. You have to use Android File Transfer or OpenMTP on a Mac. I use the latter and it works well for me on my M1 MBPro. I used an SD card reader to load the initial 300GB of music, but use OpenMTP to add new music.- Murgatroid

I wonder if Sony will also start capping US/CA models as they do for the ZX707 and A306?- Murgatroid

The Continuation Of The Sony Walkman 1Z/1A Thread!
<posted in correct forum this time!> Only ~8yrs late, but I recently joined the WM1A club. I took a chance on getting a used WM1A from Japan on Ebay as there are a lot to choose from. I initially listened to the stock 3.02 FW for about 4 days, then installed WalkmanOne, WM1Z, V2, alt DAC...- Murgatroid

Oh Geez! I get these two threads mixed up! Sorry about that! The WM1AM2 is on my list to pick up next year - I've spent way too much money this year on DAPs!- Murgatroid

Cayin N3Ultra: an Entry-level Portable DAP that Delivers a Complete Vacuum Tube Audio Experience
M3U playlists are supported - I use them all the time. I have mine with a relative path to the songs. eg: with my playlists in a playlist folder at the same level as the artists folder ../June Of 44/Four Great Points/01 Of Information & Belief.m4a ../June Of 44/Four Great Points/02 The...- Murgatroid

HiBy R8 II - HiBy's New High-End DAP
MSEB is like a pre-set PEQ. You also have a very capable PEQ to play with as well. The plugins can do even more sound shaping. Hiby's Android players are pretty feature rich.- Murgatroid

HiBy RS2: dual card slots, Darwin R2R, FIR, NOS, MQA 8x--news and impressions thread
I had heard Android has issues supporting two uSD cards. It is ironic that the rare players that do support 2 slots, are using cheap, low power SoC's that can't support the library size one may have with two cards installed!- Murgatroid

HiBy RS2: dual card slots, Darwin R2R, FIR, NOS, MQA 8x--news and impressions thread
Android players don't have a library size limitation. It's just the non-Android players, most of which use the X1000 or X2000 SoC, have very limited resources, like DRAM size. I believe this is why the Cayin N3 Ultra is using an older, stable version of Android (8.1), on an old Snapdragon...- Murgatroid

Cayin N3Ultra: an Entry-level Portable DAP that Delivers a Complete Vacuum Tube Audio Experience
This is Cayin's entry level player and is built to a price. 1bit and ROHM are more expensive solutions compared to the mid-tier AKM DACs. If you want ROHM plus tubes, they sell it as the N8ii (although it may be out of production now?). You can't download Amazon HD or Apple music onto the...- Murgatroid

I would buy a Japanese version. I bought mine slightly used - it looked like an open box return to me, from this seller on ebay. He also has the grey and black versions. It took about a week to get. I'm very happy with the seller and what I got, and even paid about $10 more than his...- Murgatroid

New Sony Walkman NW-A300 Series (Android 12)
I use my MEST Mk2 (12.3ohm, 112dB/mw) with my uncapped A306 and hear no hiss. The Blessing 3's 15ohm is almost 8x the OI of the A306, so should be ok?- Murgatroid

It is a systemwide PEQ for PCM based music(eg MP3, FLAC, etc), but not for MQA or DSD.- Murgatroid

HiBy R4
The owners of MQA do not allow EQ/PEQ, so these files will not be EQed. DSD is another format that can’t be messed with unless it’s converted to PCM.- Murgatroid

SONY NW-ZX700
You can't do this with the Walkman app, but it's an Android player and you can install any number of music players. I believe UAPP can do what you want and also plays bit perfect (bypassing the SRC process). The downside is that it will use more battery than the built-in player.- Murgatroid
