HE-500, LCD2, D5000, DT770, SR80, on a speaker amp (Emotiva mini-X A-100) Project
I'm still running the Evotiva/HE500 combo as well that I learned about on this thread years ago. I occasionally get a lust for something new, but I never pull the trigger because it ultimately amounts to just "change".- sperho

Beyerdynamic DT880 250 ohm vs. Mad Dogs
Currently, I'm using an FiiO E11 to drive the 880s, but an integrated amp or receiver seems reasonable for the high frequency shelving... How bad is your roll off? Mine starts at 4k and then linearly goes to about -50-60 dB at 8 k. Linearly on a log (dB) plot, that is... That sounds bad, but...- sperho

Beyerdynamic DT880 250 ohm vs. Mad Dogs
I guess I'll continue this conversation with myself in the off chance it will help someone with similar hearing issues as me (high end roll off). I bought both the 880s and the 990s, both the 250 ohm Pro version. Both were definitely brighter than the Mad Dogs, but I kept the 880s. They...- sperho

Beyerdynamic DT880 250 ohm vs. Mad Dogs
Background: I have a pair of Mad Dogs that I bought for use at work. I don't really need much isolation, but I don't mind having some, as the HVAC in my office isn't exactly quiet. That said, I have moderate hearing loss starting around 4kHz and it rolls off progressively to about -60 dB at...- sperho

It's an Ekornes Stressless (Sunrise model). It's very comfortable. Fortunately I have an Ekornes dealer near me and I was able to sit in all of the models. They are definitely not a one chair fits all kind of chair. The first model that I brought home killed my lower back after extended use...- sperho

Thanks. It's a ThinkPad Edge (E520). I'm borrowing it for now. Love the keyboard on it. Will probably get an ultrabook at some point for music listening. I have a Chromebook, which is great for streaming, but it I like to be able to install applications, too.- sperho

Add me My HE-500 setup and listening area. I usually use a laptop source going to a Behringer UCA-202 for the optical output to a Behringer DEQ2496 for parametric equalization to try to compensate for some hearing loss that I have in the upper frequencies, then analog to an Emotiva...- sperho

HE-500, LCD2, D5000, DT770, SR80, on a speaker amp (Emotiva mini-X A-100) Project
I politely challenged Emotiva on this (after I crudely measured mine to be ~8k) and they did confirm that their measurements (made upon my request for clarification) as well as the schematics indicated 10k. So, 10k it is, for sure.- sperho

HE-500, LCD2, D5000, DT770, SR80, on a speaker amp (Emotiva mini-X A-100) Project
I quote this to mention that I emailed Emotiva about the input impedance of this amp and they responded that it is 50 kohms. Where did you hear that it was 10k? I was interested in learning this because I'm running a Behringer DEQ2496 straight into the amp and I'm having to knock the gain...- sperho

HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.
If the stock pad openings fit my ears better, I might do the jerg mod, but alas, they don't. I'll have to have a look at the Q701 pads. What is the inner diameter of the ear hole relative to the stock pads?- sperho

HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.
Not the question-asker here, but I've looked at the earpad thread and my head was spinning... For my head, the velour and the pleather pads are not that comfortable as my ear kind of gets jammed in the stock openings. I would love to know which oval pad or pad similar to the Alpha Dog pads (my...- sperho

THE DIY HEADPHONE STAND THREAD
Thanks. Free (for me), too! On the wiring, it's custom (I made it). The funkiness near the splitter is due to me just putting some loose sleeves over the leads that go to the cans temporarily to prevent microphonics when they touch each other. I'll remove the SMC connectors and slip on some...- sperho

HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.
I've used electrician's tape to build up some diameter on the meter's mic and use that to make a better seal with the CD hole. dB measurements only go up a 1-3 dB using this method. Without the CD there to enable pressurization, they drop by 8-10 dB or so. You want to make the measurement...- sperho

HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.
Which is why I bought an SPL meter to measure it. I want to protect what hearing I have left as much as possible. I got the idea on the forums: use a CD to cover the the ear cup (to allow pressurization that is similar to what would exist while wearing the headphones, place the SPL meter mic...- sperho

Seeking recommendations for athletic/workout headphones without in-line mic
Yes, noise isolating is like they put the ear bud in an ear plug body. External sound is blocked instead of being canceled with an external microphone and opposing waveform applied to the drivers.- sperho
