Output impedance, does is really make a big difference?
It makes a difference, but sometimes it's what you want. My K701 sounds great out of my NAD 220 ohms output jack, while it sounds too lean out of my 0.05 ohms headphone amp.- Headdie

Can you damage high impedance headphones with a low powered source/amp?
You'd probably get something good out of the stereo amplifier, granted it's of reasonable quality.- Headdie

Amping 600Ω cans (With a 2.1 system headphone jack?!)
I don't possess these speakers, but the problem I have driving the DT990-600 is not related to volume (loudness), but to clipping. It's loud enough with anything I try them with, but there's clipping with many devices. Sometime it's like a fuzz, sometime you have to pay attention to notice. When...- Headdie

Beyerdynamic DT880 VS DT990
I can't comment on Grado. I like my DT990s with many kind of music, except classical. I prefer truly opened headphones like the DT990 over half opened like the DT880. You can always equalize the DT990 to get FR you prefer...- Headdie

Harman Kardon HK 3490 receiver. Unlimited power for your phones and a nice DAC to boot?
Here's the four options I know, if you want to drive your phones with a receiver/integrated amplifier : 1. Directly from the headphone jack, that may powered by a) an opamp, or b) the speaker amp through resistors. 2. From the headphone jack, but through an impedance adapter (when...- Headdie

SACD on blu-ray player, as digital input to external DAC? How?
Full HDCP support means it should not work. I'd look for another HDMI converter, but who knows, it may do trick anyway... Tell us if you go for it, Edit : Oops, old thread...- Headdie

Harman Kardon HK 3490 receiver. Unlimited power for your phones and a nice DAC to boot?
Yes, an adapter to try it. If you like it, you may prefer a swith box or a second 1/4 male adaptor for the main in. I've tried it because other guys reported good sound this way. If you believe the ouptput impedance is a significant factor, you may want to check the oi of your preamp...- Headdie

Harman Kardon HK 3490 receiver. Unlimited power for your phones and a nice DAC to boot?
Regarding the HK3490, you can try driving your Denon directly from the preamp out. I've done that with my NAD and it sounds good !- Headdie

Harman Kardon HK 3490 receiver. Unlimited power for your phones and a nice DAC to boot?
Some people here think that amplifiers with high impedance output can't drive properly low impedance phones like yours. However, not everybody share this point of view. To me, if it sounds better than your STX, then your a happy guy.- Headdie

[LIST][OPINION] Amp recommendations for Fostex/Denon Headphones.
I have four head amps that I like, with output going from 0.05 ohm to 220 ohms. I've never noticed big bass difference between them. A few years ago, I even used a 80 ohm preamp to drive my cans and the result was pretty good. You've convinced me to test them all again and pay attention to the...- Headdie

Firestone Audio Cute Beyond's output impedance? SOLVED
I had the same question for the Cute Curve. I found that on the net, but wasn't sure of the reliability, Output Resistance: » Extra low output resistance (Zo < 0.05 ohms),high current capacity Do you think that output impedance can change when the volume is set to shunt mode...- Headdie

[LIST][OPINION] Amp recommendations for Fostex/Denon Headphones.
The Cute Curve is certainly not a great amp, especially with a "flawed" LME49860 in it, but with my Beyerdynamic DT990s, it's got more air time than any of my Stax systems. That's not bad for a poor amplifier My post was more a question than a recommendation. If the Cute Curve OPA2604...- Headdie

[LIST][OPINION] Amp recommendations for Fostex/Denon Headphones.
Very interesting thread ! I use a Firestone Cute Curve with my D2000. With the default OPA2604, it sounds good to me (granted you change the included wallwart). With an LME49860 (some sort of LME4562), I'm not convinced yet... Could the headphone be sensitive to the opamp (or...- Headdie

Using Yamaha receiver as an amplifier?
No full volume. The headphone jack on my HTR is probably run by an opamp unable to drive higher impedance. An HTR-xx90 should be a better amp. If you get the same problem, you could try an headphone tap on speaker B. No doubt it would do the trick.- Headdie
