That sounds great except it won't be right now, i'm sort of doing some recon at the moment in preperation. I'm currently using two rca unmarked tubes that came with my unit but i want to make sure to have a back up plan. So... I figure i'll try and buy 2 new decent ones and store these away...

Hey guys and gals, quick question... When going for tubes which should receive my priority, for example... Say i have $150 to spend and i'm going to put $100 of it toward one of the tubes and $50 to the other, which tube should get the larger investment, the power tube or the input?

    Crack/Odac is what i'm using and it's amazing, been 4 days now and i'm still as impressed as the first day and haven't enjoyed simply zoning out and getting lost in the music like i have been now for awhile. (although i have the speedball upgrade and some other upgrades and i bought mine...

  HAHA. Totally agree now that i've experienced the crack and become a believer, I see absolutely no reason to even consider getting anything else... that's as good as it gets for me for awhile.. I'm sure something out there could improve upon it slightly but there isn't much room to go from...

  I still maintain they sounded good on my basic dell computer speaker unit.. that's my story and i'm sticking to it :P Nothing close to good as now but it was better than both of my audio-technica's (which i think are pretty decent) just plugged into the computer speakers.

  That's a tough one because it sounds great with such a variety of music, the only music where i personally don't think it sounds that great with is music that i feel is more natural with a rougher, grimier, harsher edge to it, such as gangsta rap, and the heavier metals like thrash, etc.  ...

thanks for the tube info, any tips on a reputable seller i can start with... (ebay and store) i don't plan to buy tons and tons of tubes, i'd prefer to buy a couple here and there  and then spend time with it and not switch tubes out all of the time.. more of a quality rather than quantity...

  cool... thanks for the input. so the 12AU7, ECC82 are the 2 types of tubes i can choose from? without any modifications.   i'm surprised you say that about the 650 as i've heard so much praise of them and they seem to fit a sound that i'm seeking over the hd600. i might simply buy them...

i took a chance on a crack + speedball that was modified by the user with caps, bypass, etc on ebay as i've wanted to try one for awhile and it's quite difficult to find a prebuilt one. i hope it works out. could someone perhaps give me a beginner's breakdown on tube rolling? this is my first...

to answer: i changed from a basic 10 dollar belkin cable 3.5mm>3.5mm connection to a 12 dollar radio shack cable 3.5mm>rca cable i believe the switch to using rca cables on my odac changed the sound experience slightly, although as mentioned it could be my mind playing tricks on me. sounds...

got that different cable (with rca connectors/just a basic radio shack one) i spoke of a few posts up, maybe my mind is playing tricks on me but i honestly think it changed the sound experience for the better... not as cold and analytical anymore and actually feeling some of the musicality. not...

it does? there's so many freaking buttons and connectors on the front of this thing i haven't noticed. i just checked again. haha it actually does have a power button! all this time i'm sitting there trying to figure it out and the button is right there. well, that is completely embarrassing. :P...
