Closed back headphone - over/around ear recommendations
All, Looking for closed back headphone recommendations, that have minimal leakage. My budget is flexible but would be good to cap it at 500-600. Source will primarily be an iPhone 7 either directly or through an AMB Mini 3 headphone amp if needed. I have owned DT1350 in the past whichever h...- tommarra

Ultimate Ears UE 900 Discussion and Impressions Thread
Not sure about the Shure 535, but I had the previous Shure flagship and i thought that the high end treble was veiled It was a beautiful sounding mid range but a very veiled / attenuated high end. After trying Etymotic, Shure and UE, I settled on UE Triple.fi because I liked it full range...- tommarra

Ultimate Ears UE 900 Discussion and Impressions Thread
In your W40s do you think that the sub bass is missing? There is a loss of mid bass in my W4Rs (i.e. bass lines on the guitar) but the low end thump / impact is missing (drum kicks, synthesized bass on R&B tracks).- tommarra

Ultimate Ears UE 900 Discussion and Impressions Thread
I have a question for all who have heard both Logitech UE900 and Westone W4R. I currently am in possession of both W4R and UE 900 and was surprised by many saying that the W4Rs have more bass than than UE. The way I hear when plugging them to my Beta 22 headphone amp is that the W4Rs are...- tommarra

Headphone for gym and travel
I am in the market to replace my IEMs UE Triple.fi with something that is over the ear but has comparable sound. They will primarily be used in the gym, travel and in the library (so sound isolation and minimal leakage is key criteria) I am looking to spend no more than $250 on the...- tommarra

RP010B-MkII or Balanced B22
So I built a 4channel B22 with a fully shielded 120 VA transfo, Vishaydale POT, Neutrik connectors, 18awg silver cables..and it costed me a little over $1000 It left me enough money to buy solid silver cable to build myself very good quality interconnect cables. The sound is stellar...- tommarra

Power Cables... Really?
This is funny...power cables make zero difference (provided they are sufficient AWG). Most audio works on DC power anyhow..and the overall impedance of the capacitive and resistive networks of the power supply of audio systems is far greater than that of the power cords. There is NO...- tommarra

After Benchmark DAC1 and Lavry DA10 ... what next?
I have measured and there are numerous articles out there that state the the Macbook Pro + Airport Express is a Bit-Accurate transport. I am using a high quality Glass Toslink cable and I dont believe that is the limitation because both the Benchmarck DAC1 and Lavry DA10 have excellent excellent...- tommarra

Confused: Vinyl(Analog) vs Digital
@GreenLeo: Thanks for writing that up...I was about to post a similar critique of what El_Doug had posted. Nyquist theorm is only to detect a signal and not to reproduce. Reproduction theoretically is dependent on the value of the sample and the accuracy of the time at which the...- tommarra

Review by 'tommarra' on item 'beyerdynamic Tesla T1'
I have been a fan of Grado sound for over 4 years now. My first set of cans was Grado SR60 which I replaces with the RS2 and finally with GS1000. I loved their fastpaced and fun sound, they are and forever will be the perfect Rock and Metal and Bollywood cans! (Yes I am a big fan of music from...- tommarra

Beyer T1: How much burn in time and how to reduce clamping effect.
Update: I have noticed no change in sound after first 30 hours of listening...they have started sounding like pure bliss :-) so my suggestion to all just leave the headphones plugged to a music source for 2 days continuously and that will do the trick.- tommarra

Beyer T1: How much burn in time and how to reduce clamping effect.
So very true... The headphones that sounded spectacular were the worst! Ultrasone 650... Shure 530. T1s at 20 hours are the best I have ever heard ( it's more of an experience). They sound almost similar to my B&W800d running through Krell power amps! I wonder if there is anything better...- tommarra

Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10 Thread
I have had TF10 for over 3 years now and I am still amazed by their sound. Absolute bliss if you like Rock / Metal / Techno. The low is amazing and the higs just detailed enough to make them fun and not harsh. These are my work and gym headphones. Best part about them they sound almost as...- tommarra

Beyer T1: How much burn in time and how to reduce clamping effect.
@MarkJnk: Agree, GS1000 are probably the most "fun" headphones available. Everything sounds so good through them. Of course they are not the most neutral (but heck they are Grados so what else does one expect). But as I listen to T1 they are such a comfortable listen. At the time of writing I...- tommarra

Beyer T1: How much burn in time and how to reduce clamping effect.
I will use this post to update the changes in sound as the cans get used: @ 6 hours: Already the sound is more defined. There is definitely more clarity and Bass is punching a bit more. (Take this with a grain of salt because it might very well be me getting used to the sound signature)- tommarra

500 hours..wow thats a lot of burn in! I will leave them plugged in to the Computer day and night then. About the clamping effect can I bend the headband like the Grados? @gopack87: I think people (including me) are skeptical about cable burn in...however almost everyone agrees about...- tommarra

Beyer T1: How much burn in time and how to reduce clamping effect.
Well I received the Beyer T1s and it turns out that the sound is not spectacular. *Bummer* Now obviously its due to lack of "Burn In". How many hours should I expect to put on them to make them sound better. I find the Bass a bit lacking and the overall sound is muddled! Also...- tommarra
