with an ipod or iriver t10 you can get enough volume from hd580s. But highs are a bit harsh but overall its still better than hd555

gain of 2 or 3 is just fine for a grado. it has a really punchy bass. a grado ccould do a lot better on bass departmen

If you dont bypass the tiny little cheap amp of your dap than there is no point for getting an amp. Especially for iems...

with any dap you can get a good volume but terrible highs, no mids, stupid mid bass hump... with my mini^3 its much better. But I'm pretty sure a 500$+ tube or SS amp could do much better... So its easy to drive but no its not easy to get a good sound.

Yes I'm using the headphone out. But people saying that a sony iriver or cowon with mini to mini cable still sounds better than an iPod with LOD and thats my main problem.

I got a mini^3 portable amp and I'm in a shock now. I use a iriver t10, mini to mini cable and hd580 with my mini^3. With my amp there is just more volume nothing more. And I didnt like the sound. Yes there is more volume (but I dont need that) and bass extension is a littl bit better. But...
