My guess is the internal impedance is not the same on the balanced circuit compared to the single ended circuit, this will result in the volume knob attenuating the sound at different rates. But at max volume (no attenuation) it wouldn't be the case. Basically your potentiometer has a slightly...

I have taken to calling the combo of Ghost and Magni Piety the "Holy Spirit". It's a wonderful combo.

Finding Water in the Desert - Is there anything worth getting in the seemingly-empty $700-1000 USD price range that would be a SUBSTANTIAL improvement over some Senn HD 6XX's? Focusing on resolution/detail, neutrality, and sound stage.

We're getting pretty off topic at this point but it is a fun discussion. While we're definitely in agreement that the SDAC 3.5mm out is not a good solution to power the headphones directly, interestingly enough the HD6xx is one of the few options that can actually be driven decently enough from...

I'd suggest, if anything, that you should just go further down the 6xx rabbit hole and buy an OTL tube amp like a Darkvoice, TA-26s, or even build a Bottlehead Crack.

Yeah I saw that, pretty interesting. I will say while I agree with him on the bang for the buck of the Ghost I very rarely actually recommend it to people because I think oftentimes people in this price segment are looking for their first decent headphone and I don't think they want to be...

I don't think you sound lost, you sound like you know exactly what you experienced and what you like. If anything it sounds like you're trying to justify why those headphones are $2000 and yours are only $200 and struggling to do so and I would suggest just not trying to do that. Also you're...

To answer your question about impedance higher impedance does not mean harder to drive, in fact it can mean easier to drive because they require less current. But that's not our concern with the SDAC and low impedance headphones, our concern is the output impedance of the SDAC itself vs the...

Not OP but I used an SDAC for a while, It has a 3.5mm out on the back, idk that I'd call it a headphone out but you can plug headphones into it and it will work. But yeah it will require digital volume control. Also a big drawback is that the output impedance of that 3.5mm out on the SDAC is 150...

What's your computer audio set up?

This is the Geshelli J2S: https://geshelli.com/product/jnog2-socketed-j2s/ . I have the 4499 version with Sparkos 3602 opamps on the XLR circuit. As far as specs it has reasonable measurements but nothing worldbeating, and the featureset isn't exactly jam packed. There's no remote or volume...

What's your computer audio set up?

So Audirvana will interface with Tidal and Qobuz as well as integrate in your local files and then enters in an Exclusive mode (WASAPI, ASIO, or Kernal) with your DAC to bypass windows resampling your files to 48khz (or making you constantly change that setting). Then it also allows you to add...

What's your computer audio set up?

For my PC audio I stream Tidal Hifi Plus through the Audirvana application which is using WASAPI over USB to my Geshelli J2S 4499EX. From there I feed XLR out to my Topping L70 which I use as both a headphone amp and a preamp for my Akitika GT-102 power amp, this feeds into my Monitor Audio...

TA-26s has 500mw of power at 300 ohm, TA-66 appears to have 200mw. Both should be ample power for most cases but that is a notable difference. Interestingly enough the TA-26s has 16db of gain (which I already felt was way too much in my personal uses) and the TA-66 has even more at 18db of gain...

Looks like an OTL Tube amp, the 6N5P is the Chinese designation for the 6AS7G, same power tube (idk that I'd call it a buffer) as Xduoo's other OTL tube amp the TA-26.

So I've tried a few things so far, I did try balanced out of my Topping L70. That was a good time. However what really blew me away is I just got a Magni Piety and I tried the Ghosts on that and maaaan was that a fantastic pairing. For the money it would be tough to beat.

Nobody needs to listen to 120db. I chose this number because of a couple reasons 1) It's an RMS number, so it doesn't really take into account the peak power requirements of quick transients. 2) Dynamic range, like you mentioned 3) You probably don't want to be running an amp near the top end...

I'm a bit confused by all the posts about how difficult to drive the 350ohm version of the FT3 is, because based on the numbers and based upon my own experiences it is not hard at all to drive, in fact it is easier to drive than headphones less often put in this arena like the Sennheiser HD58x...

Feeling lucky? A tour of our audiophile factory awaits

I'm from the United States. I think if I had to pick one album I would choose Antimai by The Dear Hunter. This album came out last year and I think was one of the best albums of the year. From a pure physics perspective, when the tube is glowing and you can see the light in the tubes then the filament is at operating temperature.
