Dragonfly COBALT vs.............Discussions
Something interesting I noticed with my DFC and iPhone 12, I was listening to Tom Petty's You Don't Know How It Feels from the Wildflowers album on Apple Music the other day. When listening with the Apple lighting to 3.5mm adapter the organ swell at the beginning was panned right up the center...- TubbyAdam

ZMF Pendant by Ampsandsound; impressions, tube-rolling, and general discussions
When I was deciding between the Forge and the Leeloo I talked with Justin and he mentioned this. He said the best scenario is when you have a preamp running into a power amp that doesn't have a volume control. He said that his amps really like to see a lot of juice coming in. I ended up...- TubbyAdam

ZMF Pendant by Ampsandsound; impressions, tube-rolling, and general discussions
Interesting. I have tinnitus all the time from being a stupid kid and playing/going to too many shows without ear protection. I only have the VC's and my IEMs and never figured the closed nature of those would exacerbate my ringing. I try to keep my listening levels as low as sound quality...- TubbyAdam

ZMF Pendant by Ampsandsound; impressions, tube-rolling, and general discussions
I have a stepped attenuator version running a a G73R. I noticed the lower gain of that tube really only requires me to add a couple extra ticks on the dial. The album mastering makes a difference too, but it seems like I rarely go past 10 o’clock.- TubbyAdam

ZMF Pendant by Ampsandsound; impressions, tube-rolling, and general discussions
Kind and of curious, where is everybody running their volume on their Pendants? With my ZMF VCs I’m a tick under 9 o’clock most of the time. Seems like just enough juice to get the bass to fill out without it being loud.- TubbyAdam

ZMF Pendant by Ampsandsound; impressions, tube-rolling, and general discussions
My G73R came today. I haven't had a lot of time with it, just enough to go through 3 of my usual test tracks. I'm already confident in saying that the hype is real. Cleaner, tighter, wider, punchier, and more detailed. I noticed all these things after about five minutes of warming up. I...- TubbyAdam

ZMF Pendant by Ampsandsound; impressions, tube-rolling, and general discussions
I recently purchased a Leeloo which is essentially the same as a Pendant, it just has speaker taps instead of pre-outs. Warm up time is pretty quick, you can start playing music within 10 seconds of turning it on without any noticeable tube warm up noises. When it comes to swapping tubes, the...- TubbyAdam

Yeah, I think the plan for now will be to pick up a more "normal" NOS rectifier tube. Maybe someday the U709... maybe.- TubbyAdam

Those GEC U709's seemed to be even more expensive than the G73R when I looked around earlier. I'll have to liquidate some more toys to afford something like that.- TubbyAdam

ZMF Pendant by Ampsandsound; impressions, tube-rolling, and general discussions
I sold 4 guitar pedals I had that were gathering dust and made enough to buy some Amperex and Tunsgram EL84's (thanks @robo24), a G73R from Hanoitubes on eBay, and a decent interconnect. I'm not sure I buy into the whole super expensive cables thing, but quality Mogami/Amphenol interconnects...- TubbyAdam

I knew of a few tube sites that I used for getting stuff for my guitar amps but wasn't familiar with the Brent Jesse site. Thanks for the tip!- TubbyAdam

ZMF Pendant by Ampsandsound; impressions, tube-rolling, and general discussions
Maybe this is frowned upon, hopefully it’s okay to post this link, but are these Tungsram tubes worth a try? They don’t appear to be the earlier models with the foil getters that I can see, but I’m a total novice at this stuff...- TubbyAdam

ZMF Pendant by Ampsandsound; impressions, tube-rolling, and general discussions
Now I just have to research how to accurately identify these tubes, so I don't get hosed. There are some of the G73Rs on eBay right now, but it seems like a sketchy proposition. All I have to go off of is the black coating and the diamond on the base. Waiting on good tubes is a lot like...- TubbyAdam

ZMF Pendant by Ampsandsound; impressions, tube-rolling, and general discussions
I'm sure I missed this somewhere in the 131 pages, but what is the gold standard power and rectifier tube match up for the G73R? I'm coming to tubes from a guitar amp background, and I've found that what is loved there typically isn't in the hi-fi world.- TubbyAdam

The (Un)Official Amp Thread For ZMF Headphones
After double checking that the Leeloo does run Jupiter caps, I decided to place my order. I figured the speed, detail, and increased sound stage of the Leeloo suits my needs a bit better than the meaty sound of the Forge. The relatively lower cost of good tubes is also a bonus. I'm excited.- TubbyAdam

The (Un)Official Amp Thread For ZMF Headphones
I've narrowed my choices down to the Ampsandsound Leeloo and Forge offered by Headphones.com. Reading posts and reviews they both seem to get high praise with the Verite Closed. Between the two, I'm leaning towards the Forge as it might be more versatile in the long term with the 8/100 ohm...- TubbyAdam

I thought the tube amp thing was going to be as easy as just plugging my Bifrost into the RCA inputs on whatever tube amp and then I’d be set. I think that’s still a totally doable thing, but man, there’s a lot to learn with this hobby. I’m definitely going to go down this tube rabbit hole...- TubbyAdam

Can you tell me about that and what benefits you perceived? Justin gave me some good info about how that all works and it was very interesting. Seems it’s not just as simple as running the RCA outs of the JOT2 into a tube power amp.- TubbyAdam

I've been absolutely LOVING my VC's since I got them a couple of weeks ago. I've spent a couple hours a day with them and my Schiit Bifrost/Jot2 setup since getting them and I've noticed a pretty steady change in tone for the better. You'd think that with as much as I've enjoyed it so far...- TubbyAdam

The (Un)Official Amp Thread For ZMF Headphones
Hi everybody, I have a set of the ZMF VC's from the November sale coming soon. I've been using JH Audio Roxanne CIEM's that I bought for on stage use and immediately bought an Audioquest Dragonfly Cobalt to go with them. They spurred my interest in listening on much higher quality equipment...- TubbyAdam
