+1000 !!! The only thing I'm concerned about my R5G2 is the fact it isn't really future-proof with that SD425 chipset and Android 8.1. I mean; it works fine, nothing to complain about right now, but my own experience shows that ageing OS will be a problem for the support of some apps at some...- Safeinthemountains

Thanks for the highlight ! I didn't realize that a delta-sigma flux had a SNR of 6dB, but according to the theory it seems realistic  But then, why not just use the same "DAC" part, and just switch in between two filters ? I guess that's what is done in other DAP's implementation like...- Safeinthemountains

A purely technical question then comes to my mind... @Joe Bloggs : For the ES9219P or the ES9038Q2M used in R5G2 and R6III; Hyperstream II or III are delta-sigma conversion techniques ? Can you confirm ? Normally the name should speak by itself... Because it is not really explained in the...- Safeinthemountains

Don't be scared  Listening experience is something highly subjective, and what you feel is not what the others will probably experience by themselves. You can give some guidelines to others, but once the SQ basics (SNR, distortion...) are okay, this is just a question of personnal...- Safeinthemountains

Hi, nice to see... On which specific points are the reviews spot on ? The snappy interface, SQ ? I guess you didn't have time yet to use it extensively, to be able to tell us about battery life ? If this R4 had a battery life of 20 hours at least (so 15-16 hours real use), even for 350€/$ It...- Safeinthemountains

YES ! Agree 100% with you. One of the smallest, if not the smallest open Android DAP, still with a good battery life, and quite useable despite the "small" 4" screen. (fiio M6 was smaller, but quite limited, quite sluggish, whithout prev/next buttons... and battery life sucked...) It's a pity...- Safeinthemountains

I appreciate not to have to recharge the damn thing every 2 days, as I listen a lot in the evening, and at night sometimes during the week and anytime during the day. That said, 15 real and solid hours of battery life (so 18-20 promised...) is enough for me. So I don't really need the best of...- Safeinthemountains

I would just add; if like me you question yourself about sustainability and of this never ending quest for more, better, faster, stronger... Try to search for "Striatum" on the web, together with terms like "marketing", or "addiction" I don't have easy access to articles...- Safeinthemountains

OK, I'm far from being retired... But I think I see this hobby the same way; try to find the "sweet spot" of audio gear at a certain time (today) and stick with it as long as possible. Then we come to the point : do everyone need to buy a product that is "superior" ? Or do we just need to buy a product that suits our needs and our personnal tastes ? 😉 In the audio world and in many other hobbies (I know about cycling, and photography as well), some people loose track... They...- Safeinthemountains

Until last few months, Hiby products were not available through resellers in France, neither in Europe, and even the Hi-Fi shop in town has Mainly Fiio at display. So out of Fiio's most sold DAPs, you're forced to buy online (either EU or CN), or find it on the used market... More or less the...- Safeinthemountains

I didn't really notice some obvious changes while using 3.5 then 4.4 with the same IEMs/HPs... But I'm not in your head  So yes, maybe better to wait until you get som IEM with balanced connection or even better, multiple connections. My Fiio FH7s have that 3.5/2.5/4.4 option... but I...- Safeinthemountains

It is true that to some extent, rating (ranking) of audio equipment is correlated to the price of this equipment... In some ways it's quite logical, even if the relationship is not linear at all. At some point you have to add a lot of money in order to get a marginal improvement (quite...- Safeinthemountains

Hi again Joe, Very interesting to get the POV from Hiby's side... Back in 2022, I sent my R3 Back for repair as it had been subject to moisture/water and the mainboard was damaged. As the R3 is quite light and thin the return fee from France was ~15€ as I remember (bubble enveloppe) The spare...- Safeinthemountains

OK, I'm running 8.1 on my R5 and R5G2. When I bought the G2 last year I was a bit concerned; the audio hardwear and battery life were more than enough for my use case, but the chipset and OS were oldish... 8.0 was announced in 08/2017, replaced by 9.0 in 08/2018, almost 6 years ago...- Safeinthemountains

As with Android 8.1 on the first Gen players (R6, R6pro, R5...), they stick onto one version of Android not to have to do SW dev for many, many versions... So the actual "DAP" version is Android 12, and the M300 is designed in a different way, i.e a smartphone dedicated to audio with no phone...- Safeinthemountains

Hi Joe, Could you be more precise on the remapping on the wheel based ones ? Is the forced restart triggered by FF/RW hold together for ??? seconds ? or is it a combination of power button + either FF, or RW ? Thanks again.- Safeinthemountains

OK.... You made the point here... so How you force restart on devices with an encoder like the R6III/RS6 that only have an encoder ??? Nothing is mentionned into the manuals... And I personnaly had to force restart on both R5 and R5Gen2 a few times, so I'm a bit concerned to buy a DAP fitted...- Safeinthemountains

Thanks Joe, good news for us R6III and R5G2 users ! So R5G2, despite its oldish UI and CPU will receive this update ? This might be the last one before it goes to the EOL products list... :grimacing: I have a friend who uses the R6III ; to me the battery life is a bit on the short end (15hrs...- Safeinthemountains

Dear Joe Bloggs, Sorry to post here, but I discovered on the R4 thread that a global PEQ has been introduced in recent FW releases but I cannot find the information elsewhere : R5G2 seems to have the same old Android than R5, R6, R6Pro, so could it still have updates ? including GEQ/PEQ ? Hi, very interesting review. For the time being, I stick with my Good 'old R5 and not-so-old but oldish R5G2, because battery life (15 hrs is a minimal figure to start with) is still a major point for me. But I plan to migrate to the newer generation (SD665, Android12) soon or later (used R6III...- Safeinthemountains
