    Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S

Do you have any of the other Sennheisers /similar level closed backs to which to compare? As you say, though another closed back, Liric 2 is a $2k USD headphone, it ought to be much better technically.

    Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S

Will be interested to hear your detailed impressions after burn-in. @ericpalonen, how long is burn-in recommended for the 620s?

    Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S

Have read through the thread till now and will finally weigh in here. First, @Sennheiser friends- I predict that this is going to be a very successful product indeed. It may have a more mainstream than typical audiophile “reference” appeal, but there are plenty of us bass-heads (in the most...

Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread

Jim and Charles at VnM are great people. You will not regret your choice I think. I have their Canadian Gold Freya+ set which is 2 GE GTA NOS and 2 Marconi GTB NOS- great air on top, smooth mids, punchy but textured low-end. Not the cheapest but the quality and service is good. Pls they have...

Cayin C9: Dual Nutube, Fully Balanced Class A/AB Portable HeadAmp

See earlier posts this thread on ‘protection circuit’. You must not play music from C9 while C9 and the DAC feeding C9 are powered by the same power source eg a common power block, as there is a common ground between the audio and charging circuits. It will create a short circuit and may damage...

    Hifiman RE-800

I will just say this “Susvaras though…” They may be outside your budget (though nowadays one can get a pair for about 50% of MSRP). Some critique build quality even at that level. For me they have been perfect even so and a revelation. One must be willing to drive them properly (there is a...

    Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

All I use as well and ever will: 1) they work great and 2) once I start down the path of inter-connect comparisons I know I’d never stop. It’s a game for those pursuing the very last iota of SQ excellence. I’m working on my ‘JOMO’ these days.

    Hifiman RE-800

Have had mine for 2 years without anything falling apart; HOWEVER, one time I had them on the plane and one of the stock tips (not flanged) which I love and are so easy on the ear canals fell down between the seat bracket and the sub-flooring to which the seat was attached. I had to nearly stand...

    Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

If it has been only warmed up a few hours and it’s been off for a long time before that, you might better let it settle for a few days then re-try your test. Whenever I go away and leave Yggy+ OG powered down, it takes 2-4 days to get back to its full OG self. A few hours is likely insufficient.

    Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

Sorry to hear this. I have been running an OG without hum for over a year. Ground loop can be an issue to resolve, but it sounds like you have already moved on- hope you are happy with BF 2/64.

    Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

Ditto to all good OG comments. I’m having JOMO on MIB at the moment (excellent as I’m sure it is though I take SBAF and @theveterans word for it) as I just added a Freya+ to the mix with upgraded NOS tubes (GE GTAs in CF, Marconi GTBs on gain). It’s like dialing up the slam on bass without loss...

Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread

New Freya+ on deck- VlavesnMore NOS 6SN7 GE GTAs on cathode follower, Marconi GTBs on gain. Right out of the box impressive (but this is my first serious tube pre so comparing here to a SS DAC amp system I dithered a long time wondering about pre-amps, but in the end stayed with the original...

    Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

Do let us know how Schiit handles this for you. It sounds like you have a defective GS2, which is a shame but happens. I’ve had no such issues after a year of use with an Yggy+ OG, I too have a not so clean power context, this sounds like a unit issue.

    Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

I have never had a problem with this. I have XLR out from Yggy+ A2/OG to a Burson 3XGT and SE out a Douk pre-amp which then goes SE out, also into the 3XGT. I have changed Yggy+ outputs with both the direct-to-3XGT and pre-amp connections all ‘live’ with no problem whatsoever. I never had an A1...

It’s so sad that A2 has been phased out and is so unobtainium even on the secondary market now. It really is something special. I do wish you well finding one.

Burson Soloist 3X Performance Head/Pre Amp - 8Wpc XLR with MUSE72320 volume control

You might think about investing in a power conditioner as well. Good ones aren’t cheap. I have clean power where I am so I’m not a v good info source but loads out there— PS Audio, Audioquest, Plixir to name a few more frequently cited.

    HiFiMan Susvara

I’m thinking again about Envy too. The other option im considering is to buy a Schiit Freya+ (I have some good NOS tube) and a set of Tyrs, and alteratively use the GT or Freya+ as pre-amps into the Tyrs, ie listen to Sus connected to the Tyrs from the speaker taps. I know at least 1 other user...

Burson Soloist 3X Performance Head/Pre Amp - 8Wpc XLR with MUSE72320 volume control

I posted the below over on the Susvara thread at the request of a user there and then got crickets in response - so reposting here fwiw. Hope it helps somebody. *** Ok so I have done as I promised and conducted A/B comparison for Burson 3xGT with V6 vs V7 Vivid op amps. I replaced all 6 op...

    HiFiMan Susvara

Ok so I have done as I promised and conducted A/B comparison for Burson 3xGT with V6 vs V7 Vivid op amps. I replaced all 6 op amps - volume and gain stage. Note that given the nature of the comparison and that I only have 1 3XGT, I made notes while listening rather than rapid back to back A/B...

    HiFiMan Susvara

Get the v7 Vivids man- they transform Aryas into something another level up. Bass def and impact, the tendency to slight shoutiness in the upper mids is gone, imaging much more precise, depth improves. Dynamics still good at low listening volume I turned off the EQ I had going - Aryas don’t need...

    Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

Yes to all above - and yes that’s my concern- jitter with the conversions. Once I get a new server (and yes it’s in another part of the house distant from Yggy, Rendu is right next to Yggy) I aim to compare the Rendu (USB) vs PI2AES (AES) and then decide which to keep.

Burson Soloist 3X Performance Head/Pre Amp - 8Wpc XLR with MUSE72320 volume control

Now is a good time to consider to upgrade to the V7s - but agree Burson should replace— also you should’ve received in your original packaging a small plastic box with six tiny op amps in it. These are test opamps and can be inserted into the same receptacles that your V6s fit, you can use them...

    Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

My concern about my own set up using a dedicated Macbook laptop is that the laptop has only USB-C ports, so I have to use a USB-C- to- Ethernet adapter to send audio data out to my Sonore Optical Rendu. The final step before the Rendu is optical cable, and it works fine (most of the time- every...
