Listening to a combination I didn’t think would work, EL39 & ECC35. The EL39 is warmer than the EL38 and the ECC35 is warmer than the 5691 so i thought it would be overload but no, sounds very good listening to Max Richter New Four Seasons. The EL39 are the tallest tubes I have… dramatic...- Toonartist

I could be wrong but I think they're the normal Lundahl covers. They're more of a dark charcoal colour than black.- Toonartist

That’s great… just to check though, there wasn’t a full stop between the 4 and 7. Just thinking back to what @L0rdGwyn mentioned earlier about 4.7uF being a more standard value. Could be a coincidence… hopefully 😀- Toonartist

I haven’t heard the metal base version but I do have a pair of Mullard EL34 XF2s. Very nice sounding tube and I believe the metal ones are better. Good balance to them- Toonartist

The amp is only as good as the signal receives and the RCA sockets are the first point of contact. Given the amount of effort required to build the amp, I feel that the WBT Nextgen socket is a good starting point. You could put cheaper sockets in but it feels like it goes against the idea of the...- Toonartist

Good to know. Oh, I just stuck that cap on to see if it fitted the hooks. Not soldered and will be removed when the new cap arrives. I’ll orientate it to match the current wire installation. If nothing else, at least I’ll find out if it impacts the noise floor. If it does and becomes a thing, I...- Toonartist

Thanks. I’ve adapter the old terminal block to take both types of capacitors. Used a few layers of shrink wrap around the Neotech solid core and it’s now quite robust to support the bigger capacitor. I’ve added a lower hooking point so it’s easy to replace the big one with the normal ones as...- Toonartist

Excellent, thanks. I’ve ordered one of those and a couple of the 10uF rubicons you linked to as well…. Plus a spare original 22uF. They’re cheap enough and given the delivery charge is way more than the items, I may as well order them in case. That’s one area of the chassis I have plenty of...- Toonartist

@L0rdGwyn Thomas from Elrog has said the it should be 4uF as well. So, obviously this will impact on tube life but, what options would be best if you wanted to continue using the Elrog 274b and what impact would it have on the amp? Cheers- Toonartist

Well… I try my best 😂 Those 11mm RCA cables with triple shielding were a bit of a push I do admit😂 I was down to 2mm spare and that was after using a 2mm steel rod to allow the impedance dial to be mounted on the front. I was trying to avoid the volume pot being too close to the power supply...- Toonartist

So 600v 10uF rather than the 22uF. Will this impact on other rectifiers at all? So far (touch wood) the Elroy has been spot on with 650hrs of use. Edit… sorry, I think I may have misunderstood here. Are you talking about the Rubycon 450v 22uF on the terminal block and not the Jupiter caps?- Toonartist

Do you know if there will be any issues with the Takatsuki 274b? I pasted the specs I found below Type: Twin diode tube. Product name: TA-274B. Configuration: Directly heated twin diode tube. Filament voltage/current: 5V/2A AC. Maximum plate voltage (RMS): 660 V/plate. Maximum DC output...- Toonartist

My new board has the Jupiter 600v caps. I liked the Jupiter sound so I stuck with them but with the uprated versions. I'll pop the 400v to one side for now. They were used for nearly a year so probably good ones but if I had to replace I'd go with the 600v again! I'll just strip the rest of the...- Toonartist

The leather pads do have more weight to them. The Angled Alcantara sacrifice a it of that weight for a more open and detailed sound with improved imaging. I'm used to them now so I can get away with them even in the warmer weather. If it's too hot.... then I put up with it as I prefer the sound...- Toonartist

If they have an unlimited shelf life when not used then maybe pickup the replacements and only replace if they fail. I ended up building a new board for my latest build and I intend to strip it down for spares, @L0rdGwyn do the Jupiter caps have a finite life a bit like the Rubycon caps or is...- Toonartist

Have you ever seen the submersibles with a glass dome turret that you can pop your head in to get a 360 underwater view?
