Alessandro MS1000 and MS Ultimate - DIY & modding [56K warning]
^ Seconded. Especially the Ulti sounds a lot like a K701 but with more punch. The MS1000 might have the same tonality as the Ulti but it lacks the resolution.- apatN

Nope, can't help you with that. I am quite skeptical though I must say. I do hope however that you did the punch hole mod.- apatN

Nice review. My DT880 can sound awesome, but mostly because they do nothing wrong. They're quite polite. So even though the MS1000, due to the MS1's drivers, doesn't sound as good technically, they sound better musically. They sure get your feet tapping. One day the MS-Ulti is going to be mine...- apatN

I use hot glue to secure mine. If you want to try something that comes off a bit more easily I suggest you blu-tac the distancers in place. I would not use it inside the distancers, just on the outside should be fine. Make sure you make it air tight however! Don't really know what you want...- apatN

Well, they look like the real deal if you ask me..! I would, however, advise against getting the fake ones. Also, if you are having trouble finding distancers, PM me. I made some over the weekend after I had to turn down more head-fiers than I wanted.- apatN

That CAD-thingy is nice, but it seems to me that the bigger ring - the one that holds the pads - could use a slightly bigger diameter so that the pads sit more secure. If anything, I am going to make couple of distancers today. :-)- apatN

Unkraut vergeht nicht..! ;-) There was this head-fier with Magnum drivers who wanted to do the MS1000 mod (you know who you are ;-) ), contacted me and who stirred the inner head-fier in me. Ah yes, that does ring a bell. I think I used to have 3 holes, until Bila came with the punch hole...- apatN

Thought about checking this thread again, fortunately timing was perfect. Thanks for sharing! Right now the MS1000 are on my head. After such a long time I checked my "setup": 4 holes punched; 1x 1,5-2mm hole in the distancers; 12 or 13 mm distancers; removed the cloth in front of the...- apatN

Loooooooong time since I last checked here. FWIW Shahzada, you can always glue on your distancers. My distancers are glued to my MS-1s for example. I would really urge you to be EXTREMELY careful with expensive headphones such as the RS1. Also, since you are going to try the mod on various...- apatN

What drivers/tools do you use for your onboard sound (laptop)?
That's a good tip indeed. I also just bought a quality Technics set from the '90s that I got a very good deal on (SB-CS9 speakers and SU-470 amp). Should be very decent and it also has a headphone out so I should be able to play a little with treble/bass etc.- apatN

Ha, faulty chipset driver! I can at least listen to music again, which obviously is great. ;-) Still, any tips as to how I can improve my onboard sound with this machine are welcome!- apatN
