What's the wisdom in Head-Fi now, $400 tubes in a LYR 2 or upgrading to a MJOLNIR 2 with $50 Amperex Orange Globes? Assuming my headphones are Senn HD 800 SD and Hifiman HE-560?

Are there any local builders in the So-Cal area? Everything worked before my Speedball upgrade. Now the music sounds distant and there's low volume hum. I totally would troubleshoot it, but it's been difficult to find the time between school and work.

I accidentally rolled in some Voskhod 6N2P tubes. Surprising a good sound. I'm not sure this tube is even supported. I'll give it a more thorough listening and report back later.

I find using the Dac out to the sonnet or lyr to have great result. Tube out to a tube amp made the music too smooth. However tube out to a pair of Adam ax7 really made them shine. The tube sound combine with the ribbon tweeters are beautiful. Just the right balance of musicality and details...

Yes, the tube out can power a headphone w/ high impedance (300 Ohms+). An adapter is needed. I've been exploring the tube out to my HD580 with good results. I tried lower impedance headphones, K701 and D2000, but the sound is terrible. The frequency response is all wrong.    Quote:

I've had a GF TubeDAC 11 since Jan. The tube rolling makes this a fun DAC to cater the sound to your liking.     Interestingly, I prefer my Denon D2000 out of the headphone stage of the TubeDAC-11 to my balanced DNA Sonett.  

My pair should be arriving in the mail soon. I wonder how they will sound balanced out of my sonnet amp. I tried to live with the hd650 for a couple months a few years ago and felt something was missing. Hopefully a balanced hd580 may bring what's missing.
