Yeah, but it sounded to me like too much. I would describe it as sounding it's price, and definitely far from neutral. Bloomy bloated mid bass. But again, this is just a show floor impression. Background crowd noise etc can definitely cause a masking effect

Ah gotcha. Seems like at the very least you really wouldn't want to use digital volume control on a 16 bit file. With all the headroom of a 24 bit file, though, looks like you would need to reduce volume by 48 dB before you may run into resolution issues.

Is this the case for software preamps also, like those in equalizer apo or roon? Also do you have a link I can read on this subject?
