Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
The HD620S were on display today at the High End Munich show, and I had a chance to listen to them. For me, the standout aspect of these headphones is the remarkable clarity. There is a "cleanliness" to the sound that is often not there in the lower-priced closed back headphones. Also, the...- kmmbd

@dezzadk snare hits suffer from the thinner mids. Instruments like conga as well. Mostly percussive hits lack the body and impact I'd expect. Baritone vocals also do not sound as "fleshed out" as they should.- kmmbd

The Course of Vacuum Tubes in Cayin Portable Personal Audio, and a Glimpse to the Future
Beyond excited at the news of the C9ii being unveiled within the year. Over the past two years, C9 has completely changed the way I listen to music on the go. It's also saved me quite a bit of money in a way, knowing that merely getting a new DAP is pointless as the amp section won't hold a...- kmmbd

Review by 'kmmbd' on item 'iFi NEO iDSD 2'
It is update season again, with iFi overhauling parts of its lineup. First up was the hip-dac 3, then the Diablo2 — and Neo iDSD2 arrived in tandem. I reviewed the original Neo iDSD almost 3 years ago, and found it to be lacking in the amp section. The DAC performance was excellent, but the...- kmmbd

Looks great, reminds me of those Klipsch amps. That being said, I wish they fix the "Buletooth" typo at the back. Immediately cheapens the impressions of an otherwise premium device.- kmmbd

Review by 'kmmbd' on item 'TruthEar Nova'
Truthear has garnered a certain cult following, thanks to a fairly “solid” series of IEMs, albeit all of them in the <USD$100 range. The brand’s latest release, Nova, aim to change the strictly “budget” outlook of the brand. At $150, the Nova are the most expensive product Truthear has released...- kmmbd

Campfire Chat - Official Campfire Audio 2024 Thread!
Thanks for the suggestion. I would surely try to track them down for a full review treatment. From my understanding, despite the same driver config, the midrange driver on the Black Star is different from that of the Bonneville (Knowles dual-diaphragm driver). The latter has lower distortion at...- kmmbd

Campfire Chat - Official Campfire Audio 2024 Thread!
My take on the Campfire Audio Bonneville: https://www.headphonesty.com/2024/01/campfire-audio-bonneville-review/ To summarize: Campfire Bonneville offer a solid, all-around package. The bass and treble go for excitement without veering into “overbearing” territory, and the midrange tuning is as...- kmmbd

Sennheiser IE900 Review, Measurements, & Harman Target Talk
I have four different aftermarket cables for the IE 900 and 600 (two from ForzaAudioWorks, one from Effect Audio, and another from Romi Audio). No issues with audio cutting out so far. The Forza cables especially has been on the IEMs the most for almost a year now.- kmmbd

The discovery thread!
I have been using the Symphonium Crimson for a while now and in the process of finalizing my review. To add some context to things: I have never been a fan of all-BA IEMs for my personal use. The primary reason being the tame bass response (even when boosted noticeably), and the treble sounding...- kmmbd

The discovery thread!
It's a somewhat "non-smoothed" version (notice the resonance around 8kHz). Many squig sites are also using what they call "Harman combined" which is not the same as the Harman of course. This came as part of the squig site setup, may have to look into how I can incorporate those other ones...- kmmbd

The discovery thread!
For me Kinera has been a mixed bag as well. I liked the Nanna 2.0 for example (despite the odd coloration of tone) but not a big fan of the Urd which I felt did not implement the EST drivers properly. The Verdandi fixes some of the issues I had with Urd. First of all, the ESTs are now lively...- kmmbd
