Holo Audio May DAC Speculation
Makes me popular with the utility company, probably. But, seriously, whatever impact May has on my power usage is a tiny fraction of air conditioning in Arizona. On the flip side, I pay next to nothing for heating / gas. Either way it's all factored into the operating costs of "living...- SpeleoFool

Holo Audio May DAC Speculation
I agree with @DJJEZ--just play music, and reserve judgment for maybe 1-200 hours. My personal attitude is that it isn't worth any anxiety or second-guessing about burn-in other than to be aware that it may be a thing and after a period of time it no longer matters whether it was ever real. I...- SpeleoFool

Holo Audio May DAC Speculation
Hard to say since I never turn mine off. Since resistance changes with temperature, and I believe May is doing some kind of correction to the ladder to reach the accuracy levels it hits, I do believe it's necessary to let it warm up / hit equilibrium to settle into "final form" sound...- SpeleoFool

AZ Head-Fi Mini-Meet Impressions Thread (2024-2-17)
Yes! Apparently I'm still recovering from travels, lol. I was gone for the first 2/3 of March, and have been catching up on work since I got back. Still super busy, but took a moment to check in to see what was happening with the new meet, and saw I missed a few things. I've been to so many... -
AZ Head-Fi Mini-Meet Impressions Thread (2024-2-17)
Haha. All of those things. :-) I'm very reluctant to extract May from its place in my home theater since it's at the bottom of a rack, pretty well wired-in, and challenging to transport. But I can bring my Ferrum stack to the next meet. That's my daily driver setup. -
AZ Head-Fi Mini-Meet Impressions Thread (2024-2-17)
Update: I did pick up the Tube Mini base at the show. Also, Susvara on 465 remains mind-bendingly good. I'm hearing mine is on track for end-of-March completion. Will bring it to next meet. -
AZ Head-Fi Mini-Meet Impressions Thread (2024-2-17)
Speaking of the Tube Mini, Woo has formally announced the base for sale. I'm hoping to pick one up in NYC. Otherwise will order one. It's a bit pricy, but includes a battery, which explains the very clean, silent performance compared to direct phone connection... -

I will also be there, but unsure of availability of RAAL stuff for demo / tour (I can inquire). -
AZ Head-Fi Mini-Meet Impressions Thread (2024-2-17)
Haha, you and me both! My phone is full of pics of me invading various local businesses with good head-fi to show them what they're lacking. OK, maybe Petco isn't part of the problem. 😂 Anyway, DM incoming about some kind of meetup, possibly. -

AZ Head-Fi Meet Impressions Thread (2023-12-18)
I think that will remain a popular item to share for some time to come. I believe Ryan has taken a batch or two of public orders now, but I think the wait might be 6 months? In any case, they're getting out into the wild, but they might be hard to come by for a while yet. I'm looking forward... -
AZ Head-Fi Meet Impressions Thread (2023-12-18)
Oh, I thought this thread was closed to responses? I neglected to post thoughts right after the meet and by the time I recalled I thought it was too late. But let's see if it allows me to share my modest setup. I brought my Modhouse Tungsten DS and a little rig to demo it, consisting of... -
The JPS Labs: Abyss AB-1266 Impressions Thread
I got my custom case from MyCaseBuilder, and the printing is phenomenal! The fit ended up perfect, too--the outer radius of the headband fits snugly in the cutout, which is just how I wanted it--nothing moves around in transit. As much as I liked all of the designs I came up with before, I...- SpeleoFool

The JPS Labs: Abyss AB-1266 Impressions Thread
I've ordered my custom case + foam for 1266 (design to be revealed later). Manufacturing estimate is 12-15 business days. Once that comes in (and I get my 1266 back from Abyss) I can do the all-important test fit and make sure the cutouts work. If anything is off, I can respin the design...- SpeleoFool

Unique Melody TWS Announcements Thread
UM Smart Sound app is available for Android now. I don't have a whole lot to add that hasn't been discussed here already. I picked up a set of these out of curiosity since the rest of the world seems enamored with TWS buds, and I wanted to see what UM bone conduction could add to the formula...- SpeleoFool

The JPS Labs: Abyss AB-1266 Impressions Thread
Greetings, fellow Abyss enthusiasts! I just recently acquired a 1266 TC. Unfortunately, mine has weak bass in the right side, so off to Abyss it has gone for inspection / cleaning. Meanwhile, I went a little overboard at MyCaseBuilder designing custom foam for 1266 based on the Pelican Air...- SpeleoFool

Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier
From comparing Red October to Nautilus at SoCal, the Nautilus seems a bit punchier vs the RO's soft and smooth presentation. Both are exquisite experiences. I was happy I didn't get upgrade-itis from Red October. Should add that, like Red October, Nautilus is less precise and...- SpeleoFool

Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier
So, just got this a couple days ago.... This was a custom design through MyCaseBuilder. They turned it into a design template, so this link should hopefully let anyone else modify and order a similar case (minus the lid graphics, which are an upcharge). Fit for the amp and power supply are...- SpeleoFool

Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier
Yeah, that's an old pic. I am now using a collab cable from Double Helix / Viking Weave for my D8KP LE instead of the stock "jumprope." Picked this up from Mimic Audio (also where I got my headphone). Not sure if it's still available, but it's a stunner!- SpeleoFool

+1 to all the D8000 Pro LE synergy comments. That has been a favorite pairing with HM1. Glad others are enjoying it as well. Yesterday I was running HE6SEv2 on Hm1, And that's starting to come alive. Out of the box it was hands down the worst thing I'd heard on HM1, lol, but also sounded...- SpeleoFool

Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier
FWIW, I bought mine blind based on reviews from friends who heard it at Munich last year, and because of the well-advertised fact that the run sizes are extremely limited. I gambled that if it didn't live up to my expectations I'd be able to flip it, but as it turns out the performance blew me...- SpeleoFool

Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier
HM1 pre into Nautilus feels like the absolute best of all worlds to me. I agree tubes are special. I also appreciate solid state with planars for accuracy of engineered sounds (e.g., electronic music). With HM1 as pre, I can toggle the Pre-out/HP-out switch to toggle between pure SS and tubes...- SpeleoFool

Not yet, but that's also on the horizon. I have a McIntosh C2600 tube pre for my loudspeaker setup, and that's got an integrated phono stage, so when I finally get around to vinyl I will have that feed my headphone amps. Need to work out how to reassign HM1 as either an amp or a pre to...- SpeleoFool
