The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.5 - June 30, 2016
If you're happy as you are, then you could just keep it as it is? As far as I know Rockbox doesn't support as high a resolution and/or bit depth as the other fws; but if you want to try it or any of the others, there are plenty of instructions on here.. I don't think you'll brick it if you...- fillingham

I have only HiFiMan RE-00 (the MassDrop one) as serious IEMs (I guess many would say that they're not serious, but they sound good to me!); I am looking for an affordable used pair of Etymotic ER4s, because I'm comfortable with deep insertion (if you'll pardon the expression - no boasting...- fillingham

....And now I've found Doc's FFF. Lots to compare. Realistically, i suspect that I won't be able to tell much difference.- fillingham

I'm still enjoying SU 1.3.3, certainly. Just found DOC2008's Sound Explosion whilst looking through the mods thread, so I'll give that a try too. Takes me back, seeing a ROM based on 1.2.9 with the old splash screen typeface!- fillingham

I have no doubt that you are right, that this is the "best" option - but a bit daunting for someone who rarely wields a soldering iron these days (although in my youth....!) I'll have another look at your instructions. Thanks.- fillingham

Yes, thanks, I'd read this. And interested in your comment that with unmodded HW SU EX was the "best". I don't know whether there's a link to that still? I've found some links but I don't read Cyrillic! I might try HW mods one day, but I have to say the very best SQ I've found so far with...- fillingham

Of course. Accepted without reservation, but it can be helpful to know what to listen for, and of course knowledge is always better than none. Thanks very much for explanation. I'll keep comparing!- fillingham

Sorry - again re SU1.3.3 - can someone point me to what the different boot settings mean? In particular what difference does it make only allowing FLAC files, what the Irr setting means, and does it really make a difference overclocking (as I assume the final setting means) the processor? So...- fillingham

Hello everyone. First post from an old hand at reading these posts! Now acquired a second DX50 so that I can make meaningful (to myself, anyway, not blinded, not getting into that argument!)comparison between ROMs. I've been running 1.9.5 on dual boot with Rockbox, but it takes too long to...- fillingham
