There is a 3mm gap between the wood cup and the frame of the earphone, this gap is filled with the felt, when you remove all the felt it becomes open. So I didn't notice a difference in sound when I completely removed the wood because it doesn't allow for more air movement then was allready...

Yes the dx300 is more then enough as far as a portable player, the wait wasn't bad for me but I got mine before the Russian fascist invaded Ukraine, if you prefer a bassier headphone then the 16ohm will satisfy. You will not be disappointed
