SPL Phonitor se
The Qutest is not that good a match, the overall result would be too incisive and "analytical", both units are on the same end of sound interpretation so not a balanced combo, and the stage and reverb will probably suffer. The Bifrost, especially BF 2 or the current one, would probably be a...- Metron

SPL Phonitor se
Hi, It's a very precise high end amp. However, it's not worth it to get the DAC module, the latter is mediocre, relatively outdated, expensive, and it will add unnecessary circuits in the signal path. Get an external DAC with good stage width and long trailing end of notes/reverb to get a good...- Metron

Thanks for replying. So, no hiss whatsoever from your Lyr+? Even when no music is playing? Even when the volume is very high? Is there any difference with and without headphones connected?- Metron

I wonder how bad that hiss is in tube mode? Same as in Lyr 3, or worse?- Metron

Official Schiit Vali 2 Thread
Agreed, that's why I asked it in multiple different ways in order to minimize the chance of a hallucination and the numbers provided were consistent. Schiit does not provide these specs to my knowledge, so unless I e-mail them there is no easy way (or at all) of finding out.- Metron

Schiit just replied to me that they did not recommend using any tubes besides 6N3P, 2C51, 5670, or 396A.- Metron

Thanks. Schiit's LLM bot replied: "Vali 2++ was designed to work specifically with tubes that have a 2C51 pinout, 6V heater, and less than 600mA of heater current." Unless these specs are incorrect, it looks like it will work.- Metron

Can someone verify whether Vali 2++ is fully electrically compatible with 6SN7 and 6922 tubes using a simple socket adapter (i.e., besides the "trying it, working fine and has not blown up so far" type of testing)? Many thanks- Metron

ZMF BOKEH - Closed Back (Semi-Portable)
I'd be interested on this comparison too. The Z1R do not produce an entirely mainstream sound and they are rather peculiar in terms of DAC-Amp matching. As a result, reviews have been polarising, ranging from "the best closed-back headphone we've heard" by What-HiFi to the veritable...- Metron

Try one of the Amazon sites… I think they’re available in the US or Australian one… see if they ship to you. Also try Hifishark: https://www.hifishark.com/search?q=Pioneer+se-master1- Metron

iFi Audio iGalvanic3.0 - The Holy Grail of Audio
The iFi iGalvanic3.0 uses a USB 3.0 cable to connect to the source via which it receives both data and power (for its operation). Just use a USB 3.0 cable, does not have to be high-end (e.g. Amazon Basics would be fine).- Metron

iFi Audio iGalvanic3.0 - The Holy Grail of Audio
Thanks for taking the time to elaborate. Sure, there are different quality DACs on the market. I'm trying to determine numerous things implicating clock/signal timing, including: 1. Whether a USB asynchronous connection DAC-to-computer would be preferable over a synchronous one (e.g. via Toslink...- Metron

Very interesting, first time I read about this distinction, this duality of the data audio signal within a DAC. From your last sentence, is it correct to assume that it's better for the DAC to generate the clock timing from scratch rather than modifying the embedded clock with synchronous...- Metron

iFi Audio iGalvanic3.0 - The Holy Grail of Audio
My understanding is that in the following chain configurations: A) Computer---(USB)---DAC, the digital signal is timed by the DAC that serves as the master; B) Computer---(USB)---DDC---DAC, the digital signal is timed by the DDC that serves as the master. This is so provided that the USB...- Metron
