Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)

Has anyone tried the new ASUS ROG Phone 5 with sensitive IEMs? Does it hiss on quiet passages?

A smartphone with low noise floor?

I think I should post my findings after a few months of owning and listening to the LG G7. The Quad DAC is indeed quite good, but it does hiss, unless you use either USB Audio Player Pro or PowerAmp. The reason is that Android up-samples 44.1 kHz audio to 48 kHz, introducing noticeable...

Do I need a refit for a pair of CIEMs?

Two days ago I received a pair of JH Audio Angie CIEMs. The Angie sounds quite good, but after reading https://theheadphonelist.com/custom-in-ear-monitors-fit-guide/ and some other threads on Head-Fi, I got it to sound unbelievably good. If I forcefully continue the backwards rotation required...

    LG G6 Sound Quality

This confirms my suspicions and I'm virtually certain this is the source of my issues. You know, this is exactly what I thought at one point: LG wanted to save battery power and that's why they decided to reroute 16-bit files to the Qualcomm DAC, but I thought I was wrong, because people kept...

    LG G6 Sound Quality

I see your point, but for the record Google Music can still play FLAC files from the phone's storage, which is what I was actually testing with. Also, I'll be upgrading to CIEMs :). Upon investigating further, I noticed LG's stock music app annotates some files with a HiFi icon that...

    LG G6 Sound Quality

Seeing how many people point out they don't have noise floor issues with their IEMs (including a CIEM pair), may I ask: how come? I just received my LG G6+, the HiFi DAC is turned on and my Shure SE535s hiss as much as on my old phone. They don't hiss with my Fiio X5 II, so the problem should be...

A smartphone with low noise floor?

Both phones had custom firmware, so that could play a role. The way I interpret it is that the DAC was turned off until playback started. But either way, they hiss during playback, so that's the important bit.

A smartphone with low noise floor?

I heard hiss during playback. I chose a song with a quiet intro. Actually, the Galaxy didn't hiss until playback started, which is something I experienced with a couple of my own, older Galaxy phones.

A smartphone with low noise floor?

I'm looking for a new phone that would, hopefully, pair well with my Shure SE535s. To me that means no audible hiss first, low distortion second, and detail, soundstage, etc. third. Needless to say, the one thing that gets most on my nerves is the hissing. I know the bar is high, because these...

    Prominent hiss with Shure SE535LTD

In case anyone might be reading this in the future, I'd like to share how I solved my problem. I couldn't find a Shure manufactured impedance adapter for the IEM's and in any case, anything that might adversely affect the sound quality was out of the question.   I decided to take a chance with...

    Prominent hiss with Shure SE535LTD

So, I just acquired a pair of Shure SE535 special edition IEMs and unfortunately, one of my first impressions was the hiss when the music is calm or fading in/out. After some googling and reading a few threads here, I'm 99% certain the reason is the DAC of my phone (a Samsung Galaxy S4 mini)...
