Schiit Ragnarok Amplifier
Not so. The difference in output is due to the load of the headphones in balanced. SE is another story, because its not balanced. Don't have issues with my Rag 1 or the two Rag 2's I've used re: speakers or headphones - in any gain. YMMV- bagwell359

So they skimmed the Cliff Notes? Often popular books don't resonate with me, but Shogun is classic. Not to mention Tai-Pan, Noble House and King Rat.- bagwell359

THE WATERCOOLER HEADPHONE EDITION – Headphones, Amps, DACs, and desktop/home audio related – a freewheeling discussion of gear, impressions, music, and musings.
I've compared the HE-6 6 screw vs the HE-6 SE and SE v2 - and as most here agree over the years - the 6 screw has much better low bass (impact/heft/rise time). But this is with high power SS amps, no amp that doesn't exceed 4 wpc@50 ohms will get proper bass out of them.- bagwell359

I was on it about the lack of strategy, characters compared to the book - which is what 1150 pages? So it was never going to stack up in that way. As far as technically, it seemed like a good TV production, but well short of a full blown high budget movie type technology/film.- bagwell359

37-42 years ago.... Remember it like yesterday, too bad I can't remember what I get up to get something 75% of the time these days... One day soon I'm going to look at my rig, and say 'what's that?'- bagwell359

Souther was simple, once you got the hang of it - expert friendly. No tweaking except to keep the quartz rods from getting fouled with dust/grease.- bagwell359

Easy solution. Souther (antique) or Clearaudio (based on Souther) linear track arm... Those air bearing ones... dunno, not as "pure" I had a Souther for years no anti skating, no air pushing.. Could play vinyl 25-30 times and sell as M- no problem. VPI HW-17F helped too.- bagwell359

Huzza. Yes. I use SD for comparisons because one can tease out differences in equipment, so its good or better/useful - just not "Absolute" (I still have some of the very early issues). Good idea.- bagwell359

Are Planar Magnetic headphones really better than dynamic one's, or is there a fundamental misconception going on?
I thought so - but I could not not ABX, blind test, etc. So there is always expectation bias. What sort of music do you listen to, what equipment? What speakers/headphones (open/closed back) do you like or not like?- bagwell359

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Certainly SD is a high level guide for recorded pop music (and very well done), but something like "Aja" had 64 tracks (or more), mixing, mastering, musicians playing alone in the studio, they tried what - 6 or 7 drummers - before they settled on Gadd - there is no way to be sure what the exact...- bagwell359

Dead Susvara mystery
Lighting - resulting in transformers (in the power network outside of your home) trying to turn back on - sometimes 3 times in a row - won't turn off the equipment, and some corner cases (arcing) are not picked up by power conditioners because the voltage is in the "safe" band. Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
In my earlier years Bose 901/501/301's were my example of that - even more so that I worked at "the Mountain" in the Summer of '78 and saw for myself the rigorous -ahem- QC that the 901 II had, and put them up against ADS 710, 810; KLH-5, AR-3; Magnepan MG-1 and II, DQ-10's etc - heck even the...- bagwell359

Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S
I predict they will be a smash. The 600 is -5 db at 30 Hz and the 620 is +6 db at 30 Hz. When a poster says that they will finally have decent bass, it's an example of the desire of the market for "fun tuning". As I wrote in the defunct thread I'd like a less smoothed FR for these, and...- bagwell359
