NAD Viso HP50 : Another superb headphone from Paul Barton?

So turns out NAD has the official replacement pads for the HP50s and after all I ended up getting a pair to the tune of $40 shipped to California. It’s the real deal, now my cans sound as I remember they did.

    AKG new N90Q

Trying to get by with an existing USB-A hub I have to use with the iPhone. Adapter is probably the way to go. There are thousands of cables, finding one thin as stock has been a challenge. Thicker cables tend to be microphonic.

    Almost, need a USB-A :)

    AKG new N90Q

Anyone knows of a thin flexible USB cable similar to the one that comes with the headphones but longer say 6 feet? I have a USB extension but looking for a 1 piece solution.

    All things Metrum Acoustics

One would certainly hope so given the price differential 😉

    All things Metrum Acoustics

The original Pavane is not it used 16-bit DAC1 modules, I think they also called it Level 1 at some point. Level 2 used DAC2 iirc.

    All things Metrum Acoustics

If memory serves it's the external FPGA module in the Pavane OG that was responsible for partitioning the data before it was sent to DAC modules for decoding. Second generation DAC modules (and third?) had this onboard so there was no longer need for an external solution. Your Adagio probably...

Metrum Acoustics Musette NOS R-2R DAC (2015) Discussion thread

W7 needs a driver. Iirc all their DACs used the same m2tech USB module, so perhaps their current USB driver you can download will work for the Musette. Also check the wayback machine, it may have a snapshot.

Metrum Acoustics Musette NOS R-2R DAC (2015) Discussion thread

I thought their USB interface was class compliant, no drivers should be required unless on W7 or you need ASIO interface.

    Metrum Pavane

The Rme and the eversolo will be similar to the cutest. The harshness is perhaps due to your speakers or headphones being too bright, and you need to EQ it. Rme has built in EQ, very useful for headphones.

    Metrum Pavane

That was what I also reasoned but no amount of external upsampling could bring the clarity out of Pavane comparing to a $100 DAC. It was the OG, perhaps the situation is better with the v3 modules.

    Metrum Pavane

They are much cleaner sounding devices than the Pavane. I ended up preferring the “correct” digital sound they produce. The Pavane was fun but eventually I became frustrated with its lack of precision, oversampling externally or not.

    Metrum Pavane

The DAC market is very crowded today and couple hundred bucks buys you a nearly perfect device. Sites like the ASR increased general awareness of the DAC technology for the masses and peeps no longer go by the “it sounds good” recommendations alone. So yeah, it’s not too surprising a boutique...

NAD Viso HP50 : Another superb headphone from Paul Barton?

Anyone checked with NAD recently if they have replacement ear pads for sale?

NAD Viso HP50 : Another superb headphone from Paul Barton?

Update on the Brainwavs... Comfort and seal is excellent, spent all day and no issues, better than stock seal for sure. In terms of sound, I think they sound different than stock. A bit more airy/bright less warm, kind of need to crank up the volume for more of the midrange to come through or so...

NAD Viso HP50 : Another superb headphone from Paul Barton?

You’re welcome. Comfort is just so individual so hard to predict how this will work for someone, but the Brainwavs at least appear to be of better quality.

NAD Viso HP50 : Another superb headphone from Paul Barton?

I was considering those as well, went with the gel inserts as they are supposedly 2mm thicker than the leather ones, not sure if this is true tho as they max out exactly at 20mm at best according to my ruler but they are thicker than the Krones still.

NAD Viso HP50 : Another superb headphone from Paul Barton?

Update on Krone Kalpasmos. Comfort ended up being a bit of an issue due to them being too thin and too soft - my ear gets pressed against the cup and gets uncomfortable after a couple of hours, and I don't have particularly big ears. Ordered some gel & memory foam 7506 pads from Brainwavs, they...

NAD Viso HP50 : Another superb headphone from Paul Barton?

I just received them, the cheaper non cool version. They are thinner/shallower and less square than the originals but fit fine and I want to say they seal much better. I didn’t try to A/B but the sound with them is fine, going from memory perhaps a bit warmer than the originals perhaps due to...

    AKG new N90Q

You need a lightning to USB camera adapter and a powered USB hub in between as sadly the stupid thing wants too much power that iPhone refuses to provide even if you manage to find a cable that would work. There are iPhone camera adapters with a power inlet, those work too.

In good shape. One speaker has somewhat elevated background noise but you can't hear it at normal listening levels. Will come with power cords. Don't have original boxes or manuals but will pack well. $250 net to me after shipping and fees. Local pickup in the Los Angeles area is an option.

Comment by 'gvl2016' on listing 'RME ADI-2 DAC/Amp, Complete In Box, AKM Chip'

The latest ADI DAC is based on an ESS chip, perhaps I’m misreading the above.
