R5, a new Android DAP by Hiby

Thanks for the update, Joe, let's hope Tidal is going to do something about it.

Topping DX7 - DAC and balanced headphone amplifier

Sorry for my very late reply. I've literally just finished reassembling the unit: I had put thermal paste on the chips, but I put on some new paste. I am quite sure this won't change things too much, though, but I will try and see if this works anyway. Luckily I have other DACs I can use.

Review by 'Slater91' on item 'Questyle M15 · Mobile Lossless Headphone Amp with DAC'

Small, portable DACs with an integrated headphone amplifier are more and more common, with an ever-increasing variety of inputs and outputs. The Questyle M15 keeps things simple while offering some flexibility with a 4.4 mm balanced output as well as a traditional 3.5 mm jack. What really sets...

Review by 'Slater91' on item 'SMSL C200 DSD 512 USB 1/2 BT 5.0 Coax Optical 2.6W Dac Amp'

Who said that a big size means big power? They surely hadn't met the SMSL C200, which is sure tiny but mighty. This diminutive desktop DAC with integrated headphone amplifier surely does pack a punch, with 2.6 W of power output at 16 Ω - more than devices several times larger and more expensive...

Topping DX7 - DAC and balanced headphone amplifier

After five long years of service, my DX7 is starting to show some issues. To be more specific, it randomly powers off right after powering on and, when I turn it on again, it appears to reset the settings, so the screen brightness and the "auto" setting are changed. Has anyone encountered this...

    KB EAR Audio impressions thread

I have a cable from another manufacturer that slowly turned green. Other cables from KB EAR didn't oxidise though, so it appears to be really a hit-and-miss kind of thing, probably due to defects in individual cables.

    KB EAR Audio impressions thread

I would say that's oxidation. As long as you don't notice any differences in sound, there should be no issues. You can't really prevent this as far as I know, it's probably because the plastic sleeve isn't really humidity-proof so the copper oxidises, but again it shouldn't be a problem.

No, that's correct. Basically, the other version goes directly into the device if it has a USB-B port (which is female).

In terms of tonality there's loads. The Sennheiser HD 58X, hands down. The HiFiMAN HE-400SE. Even the humble Creative Aurvana Live!/SE do better, at a third of the price. To be honest, I find just about anything to be better. @ngoshawk I totally forgot to answer, sorry. I see your point, but I...

DEVA Pro with Bluemini R2R--Combining the Best of the HIFIMAN Latest Developments

It seems like it's gone, without me doing anything specific. I really do not know what it was and at this point I don't think I can trace the original source of the problem. Oh well, we'll see if it comes up again. Thanks for confirming. None of the reviews I've seen mentioned this, so I was...

DEVA Pro with Bluemini R2R--Combining the Best of the HIFIMAN Latest Developments

I thought the same, but it's never done that and I had only used the Bluemini for a couple of hours before it started doing it. I'll try with a different source just to be sure, but I think I'll ask HiFiMAN directly at this point. (edited to fix poor grammar)

DEVA Pro with Bluemini R2R--Combining the Best of the HIFIMAN Latest Developments

I'm wondering, is anyone else noticing that the Bluemini R2R has very loud status tones and messages? It is ear-piercing on my unit. Does that happen to anyone else or is it just my unit that hates me? Also: my unit started doing this weird "boop-boop" sound repetitively. There's nothing in the...

Chord Mojo 2 Thread ___ [product released January 31, 2022 -- starting on page 95 of thread]

I agree with you in principle, but there are a few things that need to be pointed out. Windows Phone failed not because it was too difficult for Microsoft to develop it: in fact, the experience at the time was on par with that of iOS and in many ways superior to that of Android. The problem was...

Review by 'Slater91' on item 'IKKO Zerda ITM01'

IKKO recently unveiled their new product, called the IKKO Zerda ITM01: a small portable DAC meant to be used with computers and smartphones, it uses an ingenious connector (proprietary, unfortunately) to give you the convenience of a high-quality DAC without the inconvenience of cables that wear...

Review by 'Slater91' on item 'Ikko OH1S Gems'

Every once in a while a company launches a set of earphones that just looks gorgeous. The IKKO OH1S Gems has a very apt name, as they rally do resemble some ornate piece of jewellery thanks to their use of metal and transparent plastic in their build. They offer IKKO's house sound, which is...

Chord Mojo 2 Thread ___ [product released January 31, 2022 -- starting on page 95 of thread]

I concur. We see this all the time in the audio world and outside of it. As an example, my HP laptop has both a USB-C port and a dock port next to it so that I can choose if I want to use a USB-C dock or a traditional docking station. I think that choice is what we, as private users (I really...

    SIVGA SV021 — Impressions & Discussion Thread

Oh, that's interesting. I actually find them to be a bit loose, just like you. They don't have a strong clamp on the side of my head (a good example of a clamping headphone would be the HiFiMAN HE560, as an example), so I have no idea. Maybe my ears are just large, even though I think they're...

This is just one example, but it explains my point: there's a line between not liking something and that something reproducing music in a way that doesn't allow you to hear everything that's there, or giving it excessive emphasis. This is the reason why I gave the Spirit Torino Radiante, which I...

And you are totally right in liking them, just as I like the Sol Republic Master Tracks (seriously!). That's why we need multiple opinions, so that one can make up their own mind regarding a product. But one has to differentiate between what one subjectively likes and what is objectively (in a...

    SIVGA SV021 — Impressions & Discussion Thread

So I have been trying the SV021 for a while now. Although I like the fact that they have a fun tuning, I think they are not quite right overall. Bass is way too overpowered and gets in front of mids way too often, while treble is a mess that gets very fatiguing (and this comes from someone who...

Sivga has made a name for themselves with competitively priced planar headphones and they are now expanding their line-up with new headphones. That's weird, I have never heard even the slightest hint of background noise. My XD-05 Bal is perfectly silent. Have you tried the other opamp set xDuoo provided? Did that hiss as well on your unit?
