Schiit Gungnir DAC
+1 I really can't comment further as I am not a Gumby owner and I don't use USB to feed my multi-bit DACs. That said, I do agree with @XERO1 about the digital connection being a very minor part of the SQ. I currently run a vintage multi-bit Audio Alchemy DDE 3.0 and a Yggy LiM both fed by coax...- BraveNewWorld

+1, especially the balance control. That feature is the main reason I am using a Tortuga Audio pre in my system. Off center vocals or similar drive me insane.- BraveNewWorld

In case anybody is going into feline withdrawal, here is a recent picture of our formerly feral kitty Xambo, passed out with full body extension, including his tail. He's taking a siesta after doing farm work all morning.- BraveNewWorld

I has a taste of that (i.e. the Vancouver heat dome) for 4 days while we were visiting family in Issaquah. I recall the hottest day while we were there was 115 F. We basically huddled in the basement with multiple fans running. That heat dome actually covered most of the PNW to varying degrees...- BraveNewWorld

I can vouch for the the audio quality and excellent musicality of pretty much all of the live output of KC with their 3 drummer lineup since about 2014. I have most of the albums from this period and will parrot @cricket .- BraveNewWorld

If this hasn't been answered yet, I would suggest contacting Schiit about the issue. From your description, it sounds like the Max is generating some DC into the signal path which could be the source of the pops and a cause of your amp going into protection.- BraveNewWorld

I appreciate the update on your original post. On other forums I follow (e.g. vintage Mustangs), it is rare that a post describing a problem and asking for technical help ever gets updated by the OP to let others know if a solution was found and if so, what it was.- BraveNewWorld

My son introduced me to BMTH with the Happy Song from the same performance. I became a fan literally on the spot and now have quite a few lossless albums from them. Here is a case where I find the live recording to be more engaging than the studio albums featuring the same songs.- BraveNewWorld

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
I run a single Aegir in stereo. Plenty of headroom with Klipsch OG Chorus speakers in a 16 x 17' room. A bigger room, or less sensitive speakers or both could easily change the headroom results. As information, I rarely listen at greater than 85 dB at the listening position (generally lower).- BraveNewWorld
