A more sensibly priced alternative to fostex th900
I also enjoy listening to the V-shaped eq of the TH900s. As a more reasonable alternative, I would recommend the TH-X00 which I actually prefer for some music. I also owned the Emu Teaks before but preferred the X00s.- mapotofu

New Fostex RP open-backed planar magnetic headphone, TH500RP! Available now!
Yikes! I'm still enjoying my pair, usually when practicing guitar through my Line 6 HX Stomp. Seems to smooth out the piercing high frequencies better than most headphones.- mapotofu

Modhouse Audio Argon - T50RP MK2/3 & T60RP
I'm using the sheepskin xenons with my mk2 Argons. Huge improvement from the stock TX-0 pads (which are already an upgrade over stock T50 pads). I don't hear any sibilance whatsoever.- mapotofu

Project Ember Tube Rolling
Thanks, guys, for the suggestion. I recently got introduced to deoxit for cleaning my mmcx connectors which did wonders for my Shure IEMs and cables. I never thought I would need them for tubes. This is my first go at tube headphone amps but I have never had to deoxidize the pins for my...- mapotofu

help with Schiit Modi drivers
I had a hell of a time trying to install the windows 10 driver for my new Modi Multibit on my Microsoft surface book and got this same error message above. What I ended up doing is installing the windows 8/9 driver from a different installation file download and that seemed to load some file...- mapotofu

Headphones like the TH900 without the spicy treble
The TH-X00 is similar to the TH-900 with milder treble/brightness but not as much bass extension. Another option is to pair the TH-900 with a hybrid tube amp to provide a warmer frequency response (and euphonic distortion).- mapotofu

Shure 215 vs 535
The SE535s should definitely have more clarity in the mids due to the multi-BA driver design. I have the SE535LTD as well as the SE215LTD and there is a noticeably better separation and clarity in the 535s.- mapotofu

Standalone DAC for ~ $ 150
If you want to stick to your $150 budget, the current Schiit 2 Uber would also be a great option. It uses the AKM 4490 which has a slightly warmer tone than the older 4396 chip.- mapotofu

Project Ember Tube Rolling
My first experiment with tube rolling on the Ember -- replaced the stock RCA cleartop 12AU7 with an Amperex Holland 7062 which in my understanding is a lower gain and longer life version of a 12AT7. Happy to report an improvement in SQ with smoother mids and more overall gain.- mapotofu

World First! Massdrop x HiFIMAN Collaboration Announcement
Just installed the velour HM5 pads and I wanted to report a big improvement in both comfort as well as tone -- smoothening out the highs and increasing the bass response. I'm pretty happy with the HE-350 now, especially combined with an amp that leans to the warm side. I also tried the sticker...- mapotofu

Sorry I missed this earlier. The TH500RP uses the same earpads and plastic mounting ring as the other upper-end Fostex models. There are helpful some steps and photos on the Lawton instructions for ear pad replacement: http://www.lawtonaudio.com/anglepadinstructions.html- mapotofu

SHURE SE215 alternative?
Have you tried cleaning the contacts? I use my SE215 for running as well and I noticed that sweat can corrode the contacts between the IEM and the cable which has the tendency to cut out. Upon advice from Ted at Headphone Lounge, I purchased some deoxit and applied with a toothpick and thin...- mapotofu

FiiO's new Q1 portable DAC-amp: Let's drink to "Happy Listening"!
I own the Q1 and the HE-400i and, based on my listening preferences, there is plenty of power to spare. That said, the HE-400i does sound fuller and demonstrates improved soundstage with a higher quality amp such as the Project Ember.- mapotofu
