dCS Ring DAC - A Technical Explanation

I know this. In that case, still, the post-processing would be done with care. Personally, I believe it is great stuff. It is just overengineered.

dCS Ring DAC - A Technical Explanation

Simple: It should not have been recorded in the first place! If that frequency is there, it was a mistake during recording. If you transfer an analog tape to digital, and you have a 44.1 Khz ADC, you show low pass first.

Topping L30 - The new budget benchmark?

Can you expand on your "to produce trash" with at least a shred of an argument?

Topping L30 - The new budget benchmark?

Well, it's a benchmark, full stop. Not just a budget benchmark. It is stunningly transparent, and unless you need a LOT of power or you buy in the balanced can hype, a definitive headamp.

    AKG K812 Pro

This sounds very strange. Indeed, you may have a defective K812 (but is the effect on BOTH left and right channels?) Roberto

    AKG K812 Pro

He indeed speaks very highly of many of its sound aspects. He has one problem with the response in the treble, which derives from an issue that the K812 indeed have (a response peak) and the fact that he does not like bright cans, he prefers warm ones. So they do not get his wall of fame award...

    New Audio-gd R-7, R-7HE R-8, R-27, R-27HE, R-28 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs and DAC/amps

Completely understandable. You should know that inverting the cable's direction makes the DAC try to send bit toward the source, making it much more difficult for the music to flow effortlessly!!! ;-) Happy new year! Roberto

    AKG K812 Pro

This is however really weird to me. I tend to say I prefer warm and soft sound. And then I end up choosing linear-to-bright components. Whatever...

    AKG K812 Pro

Ha! Don't tell me. I joined arm's Architecture Team and we have the responsibility of defining and maintaining an ubiquitous architecture that is in almost every phone and tablet. And no matter how carefully we define something, some partner will tell us it makes no sense. Yup, I know them. He...

    AKG K812 Pro

There K812 got a very bad review from the so-called uber-reviewer of headphones (big ego, has measuring equipment, fine ears but very little in between), and thus the online sheep community follows him and bashed them. This hurt their reputation undeservedly. This said, the K812 have some...

    AKG K812 Pro

I have the K7xx, which is very similar to the K712. Firstly, for some reason the driver takes ages to burn in, and it sounds much more closed at the beginning than after about 200 hours of play. I was very disappointed, initially, too. They opened quite a bit. Secondly, the ear pads are...

The Soekris R-2R DAC: Technical Details

My understanding of the Soekris R2R DACs is that they first bring all signals to 352.8 or 384, and then there is another 8x oversampling. Roberto

    AKG K812 Pro

I do nothing about the recording, usually. In fact, I haven't applied any EQ to my system so far. For me the priorities are: enjoy the music, then try to improve its reproduction. This also means that the components are per se much more important than the tweaks. But I do not see the point of...

    AKG K812 Pro

True, but at the same time the fact that it is small it also means that it will cause some isolated sounds to suddenly have a different timbre, breaking the continuity of the music flow, whereas a broader bump will cause a smoother transition. I like my K812 a lot and I plan to eq them a bit...

    New Audio-gd R-7, R-7HE R-8, R-27, R-27HE, R-28 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs and DAC/amps

    New Audio-gd R-7, R-7HE R-8, R-27, R-27HE, R-28 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs and DAC/amps

Regarding the use of conditioners? This is indeed to be expected. Tube amps, esp. single ended, are much more sensitive to the quality of power, and that's also why they tend to have more sophisticated power supplies - not excluding the fact that they usually have less power and are often used...

    New Audio-gd R-7, R-7HE R-8, R-27, R-27HE, R-28 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs and DAC/amps

No, most of it is confirmation bias :) Tongue-in-cheek jokes aside, it really depends on how ****ty your power is. For instance, I essentially live atop of a small power plant, so in my case a DC blocker and a large Schaffer filter already did something, but I should wrap all my gear in g-iron...
