    Focal SPIRIT PROFESSIONAL Impressions thread

OK, so I've found the pads. They are Sony MDR-1A pads, found here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01JE7C1G0 They're just a little too tall (100mm instead of 90mm), but they basically fit. After reattaching via the ring system on the FSP, there is a lack of low end due to an improper...

The search for Focal Spirit Professional ear pads

I've been using the same pair of FSPs for two years, and had another pair for a year before that. The headband predictably cracked on both sets, but on the second, I fashioned a fix using an aluminium strip, some epoxy, electrical tape, and a bunch of zip ties. The headband is solid now, but...

No they didn't. Focal released the Listen Pro as a replacement.

    Focal SPIRIT PROFESSIONAL Impressions thread

Thanks for this post. My Spirit Pro ear pads came off ages ago; they gradually wore out and tore around the edge of the ring, and I've been holding them on with electrical tape. I've now figured out how to remove the ring, and I've discovered the Sennheiser Momentum 1.0 ear pads are actually the...

    Semi-portable DAC with ASIO support

Hi guys! I'm a music producer and I do a lot of my music on the go. I've got a Fiio E10K which I've velcroed to my laptop lid, like so: The problem is that Fiio only ever created a 32bit ASIO driver for the E10K, which means I suffer terrible latency when using any MIDI gear, or the trueno...

    Focal Spirit Pro headband repair

Ok, so if anyone finds this and they want to repair their focal spirit pro headband, I did it.      It took some epoxy, electrical tape, 25mm x 0.8mm aluminium strip which i cut to length for each side, and some cable ties.   I just used the epoxy to fill in the cracks and then let set in...

    Focal Spirit Pro headband repair

My second pair of Focal Spirit Pros is on its way out. The headband cracks have grown so much that it's about to snap on both sides. Does anyone have any good ideas of how I can fix this? I'm thinking I need to use something to brace the band with, like a splint, and then some kind of adhesive.

The isolation is definitely nowhere near as good on the MT220. In fact, I haven't found any closed back cans with as good isolation as the FSP, bar maybe the HD25.

      As does the FSP imo.

I might go and try them again, although I was seriously underwhelmed the first time.

The Oppo PM3s are quite similar. Great headphones actually, just more consumer focused, rather than professional, hence slighly warmer bass and a more 'fun' sound to them.

    Focal SPIRIT PROFESSIONAL Impressions thread

I've got to say, I tried the HPH220 and whilst it was impressive for the price, I found it nowhere near as detailed as the FSP, hence not buying it. It's a good basic monitoring headphone, but it leaves a lot to be desired in terms of overall clarity and instrument separation. The isolation is...

    Ultra-portable DAC/sound card/interface for music production

Hey guys, I'm looking around for a super-portable solution to headphone amplification that's flat and neutral enough for producing and mixing music. I produce mostly on my laptop on the train or at work (I know, it's insane), using either my Focal Spirit Pros or SRH1540s, and sometimes my laptop...

    Focal SPIRIT PROFESSIONAL Impressions thread

As someone who was recently looking for the same thing, I can tell you there is none. The Focals exist in a sweet spot of price/performance and genuinely have a flatter response than anything I've listened to. I ended up spending £350 on some Shure SRH1540s, as they have overall far superior...

I bought the SRH1540. Not neutral, no, but incredibly detailed, great soundstage and instrument separation. Also they aren't too far off neutral - slightly emphasized bass and treble but not by too much. I think they'll be great for producing in general, and I'll try and keep my Focals to use as...

    Focal SPIRIT PROFESSIONAL Impressions thread

I just tried out the PM3s actually, and I was very impressed. They are close, but not quite as flat and a bit more 'fun'. I also tried the SRH1540 which was better in every single way but the frequency response has boosted bass and treble, with scooped out mids. It's not massively off, but...

I really wish I could find ANYTHING closed back that I could say that about. Been looking all over the place, and even the £400 SRH1540 is apparently not as flat as the FSP.

Hey guys, long time lurker, 1st time poster here. I've gone through 2 pairs of FSPs since January this year. I use them for music production and mixing, and they are by far the best studio headphones I've ever owned. HOWEVER, I returned the first pair after a few months due to cracks in the...
