OK, new topic here. Is an Aegir (1 or 2) overkill in a desktop system? Driving a pair of ADS 300s I’ve owned for 35+ years. Within its power limitations, which honestly I will never reach. Tell me more. I've still got the original tubes in mine and ready to experiment. I knew you could use 6DJ8s and 6922s, which are really the same things. I didn't realize you could use a range of preamp tubes. How do you determine which are appropriate and in which setting, gain or follower?- lafish

Have not tried tube-rolling yet. With the stock tubes I think it actually sounds best in active buffer mode, i.e. solid state. I will invest in some good 6DJ8s soon and see how they do.- lafish
