    Vintage Stax repair and maintenance

If you still haven't found anyone to help you, you might try Audio Connection in Verona, NJ. I haven't used them for my Stax gear yet, but I called them a while back and asked if they could do some repairs and they said 'yes.' They are good guys with a good reputation. https://www.audioconnect.com/

Glad to hear your back, timb5881. my question to all those who pulled their old cans out of storage is why you packed them us in the first place. Just curious.

    Vintage Stax repair and maintenance

I have a similar problem with my SR-X Mk III/SRD-7; but on a much smaller scale. I am not sure if it's the earspeakers or the Driver; but I think it would be corrected with a driver that has separate volume control on each channel. I've been looking at a SRM-313. Does anyone know how it compares...

I guess the most basic question (and believe me my knowledge on the subject is as basic as it gets) is 'Would the 313 be expected to be an upgrade in SQ or at least as good as the SRD-7/N22 combination?" I thank you for your patience.

Thanks for the reply, Padam. I guess that's a not recommended for the SRM-313. I'll research the SRA-3S.

I am one of those 2 channel guys who prefer listening to "roomspeakers" and only use my earspeakers about 20% of my listening time. I am powering my SRX MkIIIs (and SRD-40s which I still enjoy) with an SRD-7 which is ancient, Through an Audioengine N22 from the tape-out of a Primare I32. I have...

Thanks. At least you answered one of my questions. Would you know anything about the SRM-313 or any later model driver with normal bias?

Could I get some quick advice please? I have a SRX MkIII/SRD-7 combo. The volume is a little lower on the left at times, occasionally there is a hum when no music is playing, and the SRD-7 is pretty ancient. I was thinking that something like a SRM-313 would be a better bet than having the SRD-7...

I've been searching this forum for about an hour and still haven't found a clear, simple answer to my question. My SRD-7 is getting noisy. I'm cleaning it up; but is there a reasonable replacement out there? Could be an adaptor or complete amp. I can power it from the tape-out of my integrated...

System upgrade leaves Stax out in the cold

I recently moved my main system from a Rotel receiver to a Primare Integrated amp. I am very happy now with the sound from my speakers; but it leaves my Stax headphones, and all headphones for that matter out in the cold as the Primare has only one set of speaker outputs and no headphone amp. I...

How did you get from the Magnepan Unitrac to the Wand, anyway? What country are you in?

Sometimes, yes. The cheapest I can find a used SME 309 for is $2,000. There is an Alexandria MK IV that needs some repair for sale. It has a mint 309 on it. The guy wants $1,160. The problem is he is in Denmark and wants all the money up front. I'm very tempted; but the risk is too high.

I have contacted Simon Brown at DBL and he is doing some compatibility research for me. The problem is that buying a new tonearm is more expensive than buying a used turntable with the same arm.

I wouldn't think a Pro-Ject would be an upgrade over the MMT. The SME V or 345 are too dear at this time and probably overkill for an Alexandria. The Wand+ may be a great option.

I do, too. I have a DL-301 mk II that I love. It looks a lot different than the original 301. So how do you like the Wand+. I'm looking at tonearm upgrades. Does anyone have any suggestions for an Oracle Alexandria MK III?

So which cartridge is that? Looks like a DL-110 that was scared white. Did you ever try the Talisman? Just wondering what your opinion was?
