No it is not the only thing it tells you. A FR chart give you a general understanding of how a set of cans perform and to people who are well versed with measurements this is useful. However by itself it does not show anything conclusive, that is why Tyll also measures 30Hz and 300Hz square...- Treeko

The Official Sony MDR-Z1R Flagship Headphone Thread (Live From IFA 2016)
I'm going to have to agree with this with all my might, I feel like even though this is an open forum we are not really presented a space where an individual can discuss why he/she dodged a specific pair of cans without the above response. It might be a good idea for a thread where we discuss...- Treeko

What next?
your next step *if you already haven't got one sorted* would be to look into some sort desktop dac/amp combo. You would see further gains with the equipment that you already have.- Treeko

@Sonic Defender before this gets a bit long in the tooth I value your input about the inherent dangers of overly valuing experience and take it on board. I use a multitude of different views and reviews not only tyll's as a gauge of whether I will be interested in a headphone initially so thanks...- Treeko

I don't know if you are familiar with tyll's work or goals but for a VERY long time he has been the forefront of trying to bring us consumers objective measurements to quantify our headphone purchases. Through his studies on headphones he has essentially allowed us to peek further into and...- Treeko

from looking at Judes raw graph i've noticed what seems to be a shift in phase resulting in the peaks being at different locations, if you were to move them equally across it would result in the peaks noticed from others at 5k and 10k. Just an assumption but could coupling and canal length of...- Treeko

@Currawong what exemplary administrating done by you sir, swift investigation and firm response. Hey guys i'm very interested in this product, from an owners perspective how does is it fairing and what are your views on having it as the centerpiece of your audio setup? Rising cost of "audiophile" equipment and importance of bias/blind testing
I always thought (and also assumed that it was the general consensus) that all DAC's, once constructed properly, sound more or less the same. Doesn't an increase in price of a DAC just get you more features such as various different inputs (analog and digital and maybe even balanced), some dac...- Treeko

Rising cost of "audiophile" equipment and importance of bias/blind testing
This so much. These 3 points are arguably the most important points brought up in this whole topic. With regards to the interests of head fi and keeping the community going, the last two are realistically what should definitely be implemented here in some way or form. We as members need to also...- Treeko

@Dillan I just wanted to say thank you for making this thread, as a person that I consider to be relatively fresh to the audiophile world and I have read every single page on this thread.
