Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
Yeah, when I was looking for a balanced cable I saw the price of the Senn cable and just moved on immediately, though admittedly don't know how the quality compares to balanced cables offered by Moon Audio or other companies for equally high prices.- coastal1

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
Yeah, I'm using a Cavalli Liquid Carbon that strongly recommends using balanced output for best sound so I went balanced with the HD650 and it's been great, like it better than the Bottlehead Crack overall. As far as balanced cables, the HD650 makes it easy to go balanced so lots of...- coastal1

☯️ Cavalli Audio's Liquid Carbon... a $599 Cavalli amp???
Yeah, don't have a dog in the fight -- I love my LC and it's staying home. But wouldn't really call that profiteering especially since the seller likely paid early and waited for an unpredictable amount of time. Also not a bad deal for the buyer given how good the LC turned out, Cavallis...- coastal1

Any suggestions for best starting point with Grados <$500? I find that I generally end up spending more in the long run if I start too low so would probably skip the SR60, SR80, and SR125. Though of course more expensive doesn't always = better. The SR225e, SR325e and Rs2e seem like a...- coastal1

Nervana: Neurotransmitter stimulating IEM's?
I think it's fair to be skeptical, but I'm intrigued and would like to try them. I'd think it would be pretty expensive for the company to pay for a medical study that might not persuade skeptics anyways- coastal1

iFi iDSD Micro DSD512 / PCM768 DAC and Headphone Amp. Impressions, Reviews and Comments.
I guess it's ok to use "Preamp" mode when using the Micro as DAC with a separate HP amp ? I don't need the extra volume, but would like to enable the bass boost...I thought that preamp mode might only be for using the Micro w/ speaker setup- coastal1

Cavalli Audio's Liquid Carbon Owners Impressions
Thanks, definitely people in the Mojo thread favoring it over the Micro. Some people in the Micro thread naturally favoring it over the Mojo. Seems like the Mojo is more popular, but doesn't seem like enough reason to switch. I might switch to try a standalone DAC as while I love the idea...- coastal1

Cavalli Audio's Liquid Carbon Owners Impressions
Has anyone compared to the Mojo to the iFi Micro? I currently have the Micro. Seems like the Mojo is more popular, but since I already have the Micro, seems like the Mojo would be a sidegrade and not worth selling the Micro to get the Mojo.- coastal1

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
I do notice it, especially with the 'No Limits' curve. It's just not as dramatic for me as some, or instantaneous as when I manually tweak the bass more on Sonarworks or "Simulate" another headphone curve on Sonarworks. Some say it's not very noticeable for the HD650 until you spend some...- coastal1

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
I'm not hearing as big of a difference with Sonarworks as some, perhaps because I noticed a huge difference running the HD650 balanced to the Cavalli Liquid Carbon recently. I do like the program and ended up buying it and haven't gone back to not using Sonarworks so perhaps I would then...- coastal1

Cavalli Audio's Liquid Carbon Owners Impressions
I'm also considering a standalone DAC and have similar requirements. Currently using the iFI Micro as DAC. I have no complaints with it, just never tried a better DAC. Seems like the Emotiva Stealth DC-1 is quite popular with the LC. It's a good bit larger than the LC, though perhaps not...- coastal1

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
I think what they're doing is (I) seeing that headphones have gained a lot of popularity recently and (II) seeing that while $3k will buy great reference monitors, some people will still pay $10k or a lot more for different (not indisputably better) speakers.- coastal1

Yeah, prices are far more driven by what the market will bear than by expenses. Headphones are popular these days, these companies can in part thank Apple and Beats, well, now one and the same. Prices for TOTL headphones have increased dramatically recently. The dramatic rise in...- coastal1

Apple CCK works great for me with the iPhone/Micro, not sure about the iPod touch. Apple cables usually fail quickly for me even when just used for charging but the CCK has been great. It even went through the wash and still works great.- coastal1
