Micro iPhono2 - Only everything has been improved
It could be different depending on the interconnects you are using. I am using interconnects that have locking RCA plugs, so I connected the plugs, then used an old headphone cable that I had laying around - stripped the cable to expose the copper, and twisted the bare copper around both RCA...- VladTheImpala

If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...
Just wanted to give an update about my ongoing problems with the ER4S. After a long back and forth with one of Etymotic's technicians, we have concluded that the earpieces were overdriven (played way too loud) and this has caused damage to the drivers. When the earpieces were cut into, the...- VladTheImpala

Micro iPhono2 - Only everything has been improved
I have solved the issue. Grounding the negative leads on the iPhono's RCA outs to a real ground did the trick. For some reason, using the ground post on the iPhono made it worse. Grounding the outsides of both of the RCA outs was what needed to be grounded. Strange. But I finally have quiet...- VladTheImpala

Micro iPhono2 - Only everything has been improved
Noise is still there regardless of connection to analog-to-digital converter, so the ADC is definitely not the culprit. It also never exhibited any issue of this kind with the original iPhono. Just to be sure, I connected a pair of headphones directly to iPhono2's RCA outs (cutting out the ADC...- VladTheImpala

Micro iPhono2 - Only everything has been improved
Having the same issue. Owned the iPhono for over a year and never had any problems other than the standard issue everyone knows about - it was picking up radio signals like crazy and was sensitive to placement as a result. Since I upgraded to the iPhono2, it has been a nightmare. I have spent...- VladTheImpala

Resonessence Labs Concero discussion/review thead
I've read it in a couple of places, one of them being a thread here at Head-Fi, which goes into some detail. Project86, that's good feedback, thanks. I'm just wondering if the new power supply, or the new version of iFi's product has made it an even closer competition with the Concero. I...- VladTheImpala

Resonessence Labs Concero discussion/review thead
Has anyone made any significant comparisons of the Concero HD/HP with iFi's new products? From what I read, the iFi Micro (not nano) iDAC was on the same level of quality as the Concero HD, for half the price. Since it was released, iFi has also released an upgraded power supply called the...- VladTheImpala

The adapters that I use have a resistor, it is supposed to be the same resistor as in the ER4B cable. These are "awwan adapters" sold on ebay. They let you choose whether you want a P, or S, or B adapter. The cable has no resistor. Sending you a PM now. Would appreciate any help in...- VladTheImpala

So, sad news. The driver is blown. Even with the stock cable, the noise is definitely there, on all the tracks. It's a little less noticeable with the stock cable on certain tracks than it is with the aftermarket cable, but it is definitely there. There are a few tracks that are pretty severely...- VladTheImpala

Grado modders go Magnum
Still loving my V5 custom set. Everytime I put it down for a while and return to it, I ask myself why I ever stopped listening to them. Never tried any of those high-end headphones, but I prefer my v5 to all of the mid-fi headphones I have tried - HD650, AKG K702, Audio Technica AD900, Grado...- VladTheImpala

That's good to hear about vinyl rips, gnarlsagan. I do max out the volume all the time, actually. The rips I listen to are not normalized, so they are significantly quieter than regular audio files. I max out the volume all the way up to 120 on my Fiio, but that makes it like listening to a...- VladTheImpala

Micro iPhono2 - Only everything has been improved
Where are you guys getting these? I am in Canada and no place has them in stock yet - all the dealers are waiting for them to arrive. I ordered two weeks ago, but the dealer is still waiting for it to arrive from the UK.- VladTheImpala

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The vinyl rips I am playing are a possible culprit, but I really hope that's not the case. There is no problem playing the same rips on other headphones and on my home speakers, so there is some hope that it's not the rips, but I can't rule it out. The...- VladTheImpala

Thank you gnarlsagan, I will check out your suggestions thoroughly and report back. I do admit I almost never use the stock cable. The awwan adapters are kind of flimsy, one of them broke already and needed soldering. The pins are not as tight of a fit as the stock cable, but they fit well. It's...- VladTheImpala

A few pages back I was complaining about the fact that two sets of ER4's have broken on me within the past year and a half. Well, I have another update. Yet ANOTHER set of ER4's has broken, this one after only 1 month of use. This is extremely frustrating and disappointing. With this latest...- VladTheImpala

Okay, so I just learned that the capacitor in the B cable was actually somehow built in to the resistor, so if the resistors in the new ER4SR are inside the earphone, I guess there would be no way to add the B capacitor.- VladTheImpala

I guess I am one of those weirdos who will miss the ER4B - they are my favorite from the original line. I find them a bit more transparent than the ER4S, which is a better fit for my choice of media (vinyl rips), since I never have to worry about the highs sounding too harsh because I don't...- VladTheImpala

Hopefully that's what it is. Easier to change habits than keep replacing them. I use them every day, take them on and off probably 10 times every day. When I take them out of my ears I just let them drop because they are clipped to my shirt, so they just fall down to the level of my torso and...- VladTheImpala
