If the bass in a track is soft and/or slow, it sounds thusly in the Z1R. If the bass in a track is fast and/or hard, it will sound thusly in the Z1R. It doesn't bloat everything like most "consumer" HPs do and it doesn't wimpify everything like most "audiophile" HPs do.

My favorite part of my trip to the Senheisser store yesterday was when one of the employees who was trying to sell me on the 800 and 800S tried on my Z1Rs for 5 minutes and acknowledged that they were a step up from the 800 and 800S 

Went by the Sennheiser store to check out the HE1. Listened for about 30 minutes. It was a nice experience, but, when I walked out and put my Z1R's back on, my respect for the Z1R's were even higher than when I had walked in.
