Updates:   I contact Hifiman customer service. They shipped me a new headband for replacement at the cost of $50. Now my HE-6 is alive again!!!

I just found that the preamp output level of M9 can be controlled by the volume knob. Shouldn't the preamp output be at fixed level? Or it's just special with M9?

I just put the plastic ring inside the pads. Then mount the pads on the metal like hifiman pads.    I have no idea about the mod...   I begin to like the sound with vegan pads. It seems to me that the sound is more refined. 

I received my vegan pads today. The shipping is really fast. The Focus-A pads looks really thin compared with vegan pads...   I feel my HE6 becomes more 3D with vegan Pad. I think this is because the driver becomes more angled. But I feel Focus-A pads are more comfortable. Maybe that's because...

  I agree with you absolutely. I like the sound of HD800 and HE6 from Master 9, too. My DAC is Master 7, btw. 

Just order one...I will see how it compares with Focus-A pad.   Btw, how can I install the vegan pad on Hifiman headphones? I remember there is a instruction about it. Anyone knows?

  HD800 is definitely another level in terms of retrieving details. HD 800 has bigger soundstage and is more neutral than HD 600. But the slight coloration of HD 600 is actually quite pleasing to me.

  My situation is almost exactly the same as yours. I currently set my eyes on Focal XS Book because of its compact size. People said it is a good pair of desktop speakers for music enjoyment.  

I just realized that the stock cable of my HE-6 has turned green.  Is this indicating that I have to replace the cable? If so, any recommendation on aftermarket cable for HE-6? Thanks!
