I went the same way. The Valhalla got so hot in an otherwise warm room that I stopped using it and switched to my old Magni. Since then I got a Vali 2 and am very pleased with it, plus have lots of compatible tubes from the Valhalla to use with it, mostly 6922's.

Yes, those are what I have and have had no problems. Worth the money if you want socket savers IMO.

@RMarks271 I have the Tubemonger socket savers mentioned above and they work fine- no difference in sound. The biggest benefit is the Valhalla case runs cooler, plus I like how the tubes look fully exposed. I've had the Valhalla for quite a while now and couldn't be happier with it.

    Schiit's Saga Preamp Impressions

I just got my Saga, in black! I had been waiting for the black version to be offered, and patience is a virtue as they say. It looks and sounds great and fits the functionality I needed. I'll try some tube rolling in the future, but couldn't be happier now.

    Valhalla 2 review coming soon!

Hi Azurik. 1- Yes you will need active speakers unless you buy an separate amplifier for passive speakers. 2- Your active speakers can have any sort of connector. Some professional monitors only have 1/4" jacks and XLR but there are adapter cables that will work. 3. You just need two cables ...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I had subscribed to this thread thinking it would be about Schiit products. Seems I was mistaken.

The 6N6P's are the output tubes (the taller ones).  They can not be changed. The 6N1P's are the input tubes and they can be swapped for 6922's and others.  And yes there can be a definite difference in sound, but it's not night and day in my experience. The Schiit website gives you the different...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

I can highly recommend the Valhalla 2 with the 880. They work great together, great synergy. Mine uses a Schiit Modi for the DAC.

I use my Valhalla 2 in the same way, as a preamp for over half the time. It really does add a fullness to the sound. If I had one request of Schiit , it would to have the preamp out active all the time, rather than be controlled by the headphone jack.  When I plug or unplug the headphones it...

    Valhalla 2 review coming soon!

I have a black Valhalla and it looks great. However, I've held back on getting a Saga until it becomes available in black, if ever. That's the downside of having a black Schiit product and you have plans to match it with another.

    Valhalla 2 review coming soon!

The Vali 2 is a hybrid amp, where the Valhalla is an OTL all tube amp, which puts out more power at higher impedances. It still works well with lower impedance headphones however.

    Schiit Modi USB DAC

@pahhhoul I'd suggest you get in touch with Schiit about your issue.  My experience with them when I had problems was excellent. If you have access to a powered USB hub you could try that, but that's all I can think of.  I have a Mac Mini running El Capitan and it recognizes my Modi fine. I use...

The treble on the DT880's certainly doesn't bother me, but I listen mainly to classical and acoustic jazz and vocals. I love the clarity and airiness they bring. I have the Premium 250 ohm which are the most comfortable pair of headphones I've ever had.

I picked up a pair of GE 6CG7s and have been listening to them in my Valhalla 2. I am very pleased with the sound which is pretty neutral but full and clean.  The Amperex 6DJ8s I normally listen to are definitely warmer but these are just as good.

Thanks for this information. I just ordered a pair of GE 6CG7 for my Valhalla 2. I'll be quite interested to see how they compare to my favorite Amperex 6DJ8s.

I have a DT880 with my Valhalla. I have it on low gain and the volume control is usually between 10 or 11 o'clock.  Any more would be painfully loud for my ears. It's fed by an original Modi. The Beyers are 250 ohms impedance.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I got my black Valhalla in May of this year.  It's also my impression that the black versions are only available very sporadically.

My Valhalla looks fantastic on my desk, and of course sounds superb too.  However, I have to confess I waited until a black one was available before I ordered one, as I felt the black chassis looked better :)

    Valhalla 2 review coming soon!

@martinrajdl I'm surprised you are having issues with your tubes so soon after purchase. The ones that come with the Valhalla are rated for 5000 hours.  Does the noise happen with nothing plugged into the amp?  Is it in one channel or both?  You may also have power problems causing the noise...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I would definitely be interested in such a product if it wasn't any larger than the Valhalla. 20W per channel would be plenty for my needs in a small room.

    Sennheiser x Massdrop HD6XX Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV

Extremely disappointing. My experience was the same as so many others here. Voting this morning was easier than the debacle of mass drop and that's saying something. Needless to say I will not be attempting any more business with them. Very unprofessional.

Question for Jason. Will the Saga ever be available in black? I'd love to have it sitting next to my black Valhalla.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I have to agree with this. This is the only downside to my Valhalla 2, not being able to tell where the volume control is at. Jason, you could offer an aftermarket knob perhaps for those of us with less than perfect vision. Otherwise, the Valhalla is perfect for my needs and it keeps my room...

    Valhalla 2 review coming soon!

Not in my experience.  I got the ones from Tubemonger.  They reduced the heat significantly on the volume control which is now warm to the touch but not hot. I also bought bigger feet to raise it away from the shelf more.

I recently had my Modi serviced under warranty and they turned it around in a few days. Shipping back to me took almost a week though but it works perfectly now.
