    Home theater movie headphones

I just purchased the HifiMan HE-400 headphones and they have changed my experience with movies. I started with Sony STR-V6. Then I went to Audio Technica A900. Both of these were closed back as I thought I wanted the more bass oriented headphones. However when I went to the open back HifiMan...

    Home theater movie headphones

Well I think the hifiman he-400 should have the huge soundstage and vocals but it also sounds like the base is pretty good also. Thanks for the tip on the Phillips. It could be like PurpleAngel has been saying with the impedance mismatch with bloated bass.

Many AV Receivers/Stereo Integrated amps do NOT use opamp powered headphone jacks

I will be getting a pair of Hifiman HE-400 on Thursday. I plan to drive them for movie watching with my HK 7550HD Home Theater Receiver. I found that the service manual had a schematic that showed the opamp configuration. To me the receiver sounds pretty good but wondering what others think on...

    Home theater movie headphones

I hope that they are not too picky, that is what it sounded like from reviews.    I did some more research and found that my HK 7550hd is indeed using a headphone buffer phase with njm4556ad opamps. The drawing shows the headphone topology. I am not quite good enough in my electronics to...

    Home theater movie headphones

Well I could not resist trying some hifi man he-400. Have not had a planar magnetic and folks say they work well with Dolby headphone and head amp had a great price.

    Home theater movie headphones

It sounds like the only real way to go is the DT-900 beyerdynamic at 250ohm. I downloaded the service manual for the he 7550hd but still could not determine the headphone out ohms. Why are there not more headphones with higher ohms for receiver use. Too bad at the Fidelio do look nice.

    Home theater movie headphones

After a little more research I am thinking the Phillips Fidelio X2. Somehow the AKG just don't keep my interest.

    Home theater movie headphones

I currently use a pair of Audio Technica ATH-900x with an HK 7550hd receiver that has a Dolby headphone mode. I listen every night so thinking a better pair of headphones could be a benefit. I was thinking about trying an open headphone design. Maybe something like a hifiman 400 or a...

    New Member Introductions thread

Hi my name is Chris. With kids now I end up listening to headphones for movies quite a bit. I put some bass shakers under the couch so it seems like I have much more bass but still looking into better sounds for movies.   Also have two channel system and I'm looking forward to upgrading it and...

Does anyone own the Wyred4sound DAC 2?

I have the North Star Dac 192 but wonder if it would be a large upgrade to go with the DAC-2. I think I could get rid of the analog preamp that I have not since I never play my vinyl now. How does it do as a preamp and DAC.

    Audio-gd Digital Interface

I decided to stick with coax inputs and outputs on my North Star Dac 192. I found a nice Empirical Audio Synchro-mesh and went with it. It was really tempting to try the new Audio-GD DI 2014 and it would have worked with the I2S input. It does put out 3.3V and not 5V like the North Star would...

    Audio-gd Digital Interface

Got an update from Kingwa. They are willing to remap the I2S output to match the I2S input on my North Star Design 192 DAC. That is some true customer service that you do not see from many companies. I thought I would have to build a custom cable to do the remapping.   Kingwa also stated that...

    Audio-gd Digital Interface

Thank you good idea. I asked Kingwa about the I2S working with the North star DAC but he said he said he did not know. But I sent a request asking if the unit will upsample to 24/192 on the I2S output.

    Audio-gd Digital Interface

Thanks for the info on the DI 3 doing up sampling but no the new DI. Looks like even if I made the pinouts match that I could not get the sonos to do the 24/192 that would be needed for the I2s input. It looks like a very nice unit and I look forward to seeing the reviews on it. I could still...

    Audio-gd Digital Interface

Hoping somebody can give me some guidance.   I have a Sonos hooked up to a North Star Design DAC 192 MK1. I just learned from some research that the Sonos has considerable jitter at the output that can be cleaned up by a reclocker. I have been looking at the syncro-mesh and the Wyred4sound...
