I have exactly the same issue. Only solved through UAPP, which makes all my streaming services bloody useless. Can't believe that chord thought that this was OK?

How rattly should these buttons be? Mine rattle a bit even if pick it up off the desk or move it ... and for a portable item it seems a bit weird .... I know rattle is normal, but to what degree?

More than enough, leaning towards a bit much, depending on what you are listening to. It'll pick up on bad quality mp3s etc. and some badly recorded songs with distortion (although sometimes then the distortion is there as part of the song), but sometimes the distortion is a bit much ...
