I have both a stock SCD-1 (which after 14 years of service needs repair) and an SCD-XA5400ES. When they both worked I compared them and I would give a very slight edge to the SCD-1 ( please remember that which one sounds better is probably very system dependent ). What I can say with great...

I do not want to shoot you, but I do want you to do your homework before you post. I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing the SS-AR1's when they were first introduced in the US at an audio show in NYC and (through a translator) was able to ask questions of the technicians that came over from...

My bad about this not being the right place to post about the SS-AR1 speaker. My original SACD player was an SCD-1. I lasted 12 years before it started skipping too much. I still have fond memories of that player.

This is not the place to post this, however, if you really want to hear the best that Sony has you need to hear these: https://www.stereophile.com/content/sony-ss-ar1-loudspeaker.

    CanJam NYC 2017 Impressions Thread!

Good point, I was able to listen critically in the Woo Audio room and in the Sennheiser HE-1 room.

    CanJam NYC 2017 Impressions Thread!

Please remember that I consider myself only a part time headphone user and a full time stereo nut and audiophile.  My comments on CanJam NYC 2017 are from a different view point than that of a dedicated headphone user.  Given that this CanJam was 30 miles from where I live I simply had to go. ...

    CanJam NYC 2017 (February 4-5, 2017)

Very good advice and all the people who have come NYC from out of town for the Can Jam should be aware.  NYC is an incredible city with all kinds of great things to do.  But, there are bad people who prey on tourist. If you are approached by a stranger who offers you something or wants to...

    CanJam NYC 2017 (February 4-5, 2017)

Bob, I forgot two things.  You can walk north on either Broadway or 7th Avenue from 42nd to 45th to get to the Marriott.  Along the walk you may encounter people dressed up as super heroes or cartoon characters.  Beware, these people are nothing more than con men looking to make a fast and easy...

    CanJam NYC 2017 (February 4-5, 2017)

Bob, This is so simple.  Find the LIRR train you want and get a round trip ticket from there to Penn Station (http://lirr42.mta.info/  be sure you get the Saturday schedule).  At Penn station follow the signs to the the 1,2,3 subway train.  You will need to buy a Metro Card (it works for...

    CanJam NYC 2017 (February 4-5, 2017)

Driving and parking in NYC is not fun even for those of us who live in the area (i.e. me) and have done it many times.   Where are you staying that you want to drive into NYC?  The best way to get to NYC from any of the surrounding areas is by commuter train and then subway.  If you post back...

Third Eye, I just discovered this and registered.  I feel like an idiot for being so late.  Is there any hope that I can still order a T-shirt?  Thanks - Tony   Tony Plachy |XL|1|

Official NYC Metro Area "Headphonatics Anonymous" Fall Meet - November 15th - Stamford Sheraton - Stamford, CT

This may sound crazy, but the answer to your question is yes!   I will gladly spend $30 to support head-fi having these meets, but I do not want to spend $30 on parking that cost the hotel almost nothing for me to park there.  So, You can put me down as attending (assuming my wife's final...

Official NYC Metro Area "Headphonatics Anonymous" Fall Meet - November 15th - Stamford Sheraton - Stamford, CT

It depends on what they charge, some big city hotels charge $30 or more for a day's parking.  If it is not too much trouble to double check on the parking that would be great.

Quote:   Not for the S9000ES, it has not gotten that much use except as a DVD player which was a low use situation compared to a cd/sacd player use.  I use an SCD-1 as the SACD/CD player in my main system (a full stereo system as opposed to a headphone system).  I have a spare laser...

I am so sorry I missed this, looks like a great time was had by all.  Will have to try to do it next year.  Anyone know if there is going to me a fall meet in Westchester this year?

Quote:  Apparently it is (at least in the 120V version):   http://store.sony.com/p/SCD-XA5400ES/en/p/SCDXA5400ES   The only place I could find it for sale was the Sony website.  I bought mine about two years ago at j&r in nyc, but could not find it on their website today.

Quote:   The only time I listen to CD's is in my car.  I cannot remember the last time I played a CD in my main system.  My digital listening indoors is almost exclusively SACD.
