I mentioned that no amount of fiddling with the treble and bass would correct for the loss of sound in the "phantom center", at least in the time I gave it last night. SallymaeHogsby got it right a few posts ago when she said that classical music sounds "gutted". I was listening to some Vivaldi...

Yeah, that's kind of where I'm at with this. I'll see if I can do this test properly, just to satisfy my curiosity, but I have no problem sticking with the 2.14b firmware, and fully enjoying my use of the X3 with that. For the record, I'm not trying to blast the firmware developers with any...

Yeah, that and issues with the audio input drivers on my PC that I've been meaning to sort out for a while now, but keep putting off. :(   PS. While I'm on that subject, if anyone has sorted out how to get recording to work from one of the line inputs on a Yamaha Audiogram in Windows 7 64-bit...

Ok, so I tried it, and the results aren't totally conclusive, but very interesting nonetheless. I get some leakage into the opposite channel (tested with chopping the right channel out of the first half of a track, and the left channel out of the second half of one of my 24/96 FLAC files). I...

Holy crap, you're right! I'm going to try this right now...thanks for the idea!

Yeah, sorry, I was mincing words. What I meant was basically this: If I take any of the files I have on my X3 right now and preview them with this plugin, with roughly these settings (maybe a bit closer to -20), they end up sounding almost exactly how they sound on the X3 itself with the...

<subjective opinion> So...I finally got time to try the 3.0 firmware, replacing it from 2.14b. I'm listening to 24/96 and 24/192 FLAC from HDTracks, using V-Moda Crossfade M-100s. I hear what people are saying about what they perceive as improvements in the SQ, but I beg to differ. I think I...

Not necessarily. I've got a pair of V-Moda crossfades (M-100) hooked up to mine, and some of the audiophile stuff I listen to that has a really high dynamic range, I'm at 90. Then when I switch to a ripped CD, youch! I drop it back down to 75. So it depends a lot on what you're listening to.

The difference between the clip+ and the X3 was night and day for me. On the X3, all my 24bit, 96kHz files sound spectacular. On the Clip, they sound like...silence, and an 'invalid media format' error message.

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

Yeah, this matches my experience. The actual crashing seems to be confined to 24/96 and 24/192 FLAC in gapless playback on firmware 2.1, and *only* when they're loaded into onboard memory (not off my micro SD card), so I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the internal storage...

Well, so far all my CD rips to FLAC have sounded great. At least I haven't noticed clicks. I would also guess that 2.1 is the standard shipping firmware version. That's what mine had when I got it about 6 weeks ago.

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

Well, prior to the beta firmware version 2.14b, I'd say...badly. Depending on what you're playing, it seems spotty, and in the case of 24 bit, 192 kHz FLAC, frequently crashed my unit.   With the 2.14b firmware, it's much better. It's not "true" gapless, I don't think. For anything I've tried...

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

Yeah, I had the "won't play the next song" issue with almost every 24bit/192 kHz FLAC on there before I upgraded from 2.1 to 2.14b. Now it's all fine, and even gapless works very well in most cases. I can't say enough good things about the progress being made on the firmware. As for 2.14b being...

You should check out posts #9372 and  #9410 in this thread. In my browser, they're on pages 625 and 628 respectively. You might want to read the posts in between, and for at least a handful of pages after that as well, since there's a lot of useful discussion around a couple of non-critical, but...

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

Ok, I'll concede that last point. In a perfect world, I hope the devs eventually get around to fixing this limitation. It just saddens me to think that they might spend any time on improving their player so that it works better for people who feel the need to have 5800 songs with them, when...

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

But that's not the point. The point is that 5800 tracks as a limitation (483 albums at 12 tracks per) is not worth correcting for. The real point I was trying to make, however, is that if you have this much music on your player, the sound quality of it is going to be low enough that you probably...

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

Doing the math. Let's say they're average 3.5 minute length songs...a fairly typical pop song, right? 3.5 x 5800 = 20,300 minutes = 338.3333 hours = 2.014 weeks. So you *could*, in theory, listen to that much questionable sound quality music in 2 weeks straight if you didn't sleep. I dunno...I...

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

Yeah, I've had similar issues. But my point still stands, I think. If you've bought a FiiO to listen to over 5800 files, a fair percentage of them must be lower than ogg at Q10, so...why exactly are you using a player that has as its main differentiating feature (and main reason for its price...

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

5800 tracks on 128GB means your average track size is 11MB. That would have to mean that you're not listening to anything much in high-res. The smallest file on my player at the moment is 17MB, and the average is roughly 100MB. Given that one of the main selling features of these devices is the...

I want to point out that I just upgraded to 2.14b today (finally) from 2.1, and finally! I can actually listen to The Cars Studio Album Collection from HDTracks in 24bit/192kHz FLAC without it crashing (in gapless mode) between every single track. I got through the whole set without a single...

Reply to some bugs of X3’s new firmware and new function suggestions from our end-users!

Quick follow up...of course all those Cars tracks play fine without gapless playback on. It's kind of bad though. The gap is not consistent, and sometimes ends up being around 5 seconds (noticeable because a couple of the Cars albums have crossfading from one track to the next). Often, the next...

Reply to some bugs of X3’s new firmware and new function suggestions from our end-users!

I picked up The Cars Studio Album Collection in 24-bit, 192 kHz FLAC from here: http://www.hdtracks.com/the-cars-studio-album-collection-1978-2483   It is the best test of crashing the X3 with the 2.1 firmware I've seen yet. It freezes up and has to be powered down by holding down the power...
