Beyerdynamic DTX 501p cushion change - how?

Yes. My Alessandros (Grado) where the foam just wraps around the earphone parts and my AKG K550 where it has a notch that you slide the back lip over and then just turn it and it basically does it for you as you turn it. No idea what I'm supposed to do with the Beyerdynamics. I think the lip...

Beyerdynamic DTX 501p cushion change - how?

Hi. I'm trying to change the cushions on my headphones but had no idea how. It seems the flap on the back of the cushion has to go inside the very thin channel on the headphone, but I have no idea how to get it in all the way around. I got these from eBay. Thanks!

Thanks, but I already made a decision.

    Closed-back headphone recommendations please

I think it did, yeah. I have a narrow face and have found no problem with lack of seal/clamping at all since they can now sit on my head comfortably to sit around my ears and do their job. The Sennheiser cushion is pretty cheap, so if you can find a set of the K550 and just stick something in...

Followup. I decided on the K550mkiii. I had to mod the headband with the Sennheiser HD-580 headband cushion. It now fits and sounds great. Still getting used to the feeling of the comically large ear pads on my head, though.

    AKG K550 vs K545 - size only

I've been searching for sealed headphones to use at work that are as similar to my Alessandros as possible, and am quite happy with the AKG K550. Only problem is that they're huge on me. I need about half an inch padding under the headband to actually have it sit properly on my ears. It seems...

They also do something interesting with vocals in certain situations. If you have access to any music services, check out the song Hisingen Blues from Graveyard. The vocals, especially in the second verse, sound sort of compressed, or almost over the phone, where they sound more live in other...

    Closed-back headphone recommendations please

Yeah, my wife was across the room and said she could hear them almost as loud as my Alessandros. Too bad.

@humzebra I've been listening to the Phonons. They sound great, but leak like crazy.

    Closed-back headphone recommendations please

I like the sound from the HD-598CS a lot, but they're too "relaxed" to really make me happy. The K550 sound more aggressive, while still sounding relatively neutral, which I like. Looking forward to trying a couple others.

Ok, that's pushing it on price for me. :)

    Closed-back headphone recommendations please

Thanks. I'll definitely have to try these out since I really liked the sound from the AKG K550mkiii.

Thanks. Those sound really good. Do the ear cups and headband use real or synthetic leather?

Are these headphones semi-closed and will leak?

Also, unfortunately headphones using real leather is a non-starter for me.

    Closed-back headphone recommendations please

Thanks, all, for the replies. I'm looking into all of this. I realized something about the HD-598 Cs. It's not that I don't like the bass; it's that the entire sound from them is kinda "relaxed". The AKG K550 and my Alessandros are more aggressive overall. More "fun". Definitely looking into...

    Closed-back headphone recommendations please

Hi. For use at work, I need some new closed back headphones for running directly out of my Mac mini. I'm not terribly concerned about price. Audio quality is most important for me. I guess I'd consider myself on the low end of audiophile. I like very neutral sound with very crisp highs...

Apple IEM - most underrated IEMs on the market

Thanks again for the tip. Finally received the ES3 and they really are good! Impressively controlled bass and tight, crisp, yet not harsh highs. I'll consider the Comply tips, but as-is I'm really impressed!

Apple IEM - most underrated IEMs on the market

Problem now with the Apple IEMs is that they haven't been updated with the lightning connector for the iPhone 7 and later, so you'll be relying on the adapter. I'm now really hoping to find bluetooth earphone as good or better than the Apple IEMs.

Black Friday Deals for Audiophiles 2014

Thanks for all this info.  I just went in for the $39 IEMs.  I love my Etymotic ER-4P, but use the Apple in-ears for more general quick in and out and toss into backpack pocket.  But I've been looking to update or replace those.  Hopefully these will fit the bill.

Beyerdynamic DTX 501P too big for my head

I have an admittedly small head, but was very surprised to find that the pair of Beyerdynamic DTX 501P that just arrived for me today are too big for my head, even at the smallest setting. Have others found this?  Very disappointing, since I was really excited to try these out.

    Are PX200 II's really closed?

Quote: Hah, that's a good point.  I do intend to do that with my original PX200s.

    Are PX200 II's really closed?

I have the original PX200 that I use at work and no one can hear anything leaking.  I picked up the II's today and did the test asking my wife if she could hear anything coming out.  She could. Is it possible that I could get a proper seal with the originals but not the II's?   Thanks.

Apple IEM - most underrated IEMs on the market

I got these headphones yesterday and have been playing around with them on my iPhone 3GS. I have had Etymotics for years, but for general use find them a little too inconvenient, plus they stick too far out of my ears to use with a winter hat. Anyway, so these sound good to me, not great...
